ive been thinkin about buyin a cr 80 for a few reasons.the trails i ride are getting pretty tight, i want something pretty quik, id like to try somethign new, and i can use the money i didnt spend on a the 80 that i got from selling my 300 towards the new honda and maybe can buy one later on down the road.im only 13 and about 110 pounds so i think the size should be ok and ive heard those 80s are pretty fast too.i know i can get a nice used one for under 2000 so ill have some extra money.do you guys recomend a cr80 and how did you or do you like them.any info is great, thanks alot

if all you ride is tight trails get a crf 150 youll have alot more fun

deffinatley go to a bike shop and throw a leg over a few models and see if they will let ya ride them. at your age your growing pretty fast so you may want a bigger 4 stoke that should last ya a bit longer.

but yes...the cr80 is a killer bike and is extremely fast for its size.

my husband has the crf230 and it's a great bike, but he's almost 200 lbs. i'd go for the 150.

from experience i had a 1996 cr80...

DO NOT BUY ONE FOR TRAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they are all top end bikes... they have no powervalve so u have to stay on the gas 24-7... if u aren't on the bikes riding them hard 24-7 they carbon up and don't run right and bog out... u have to be able to ride them hard all the time!!!!!! i had so much trouble riding my bike on trails behind my house... i'd constantly have to hold in the clutch and hold it wide open to clean it out or find a field to open her up in... it was a pain to ride trials with it...

if u wanna ride trails get a crf or ttr... if u wanna go fast on a mx track get a cr or mx type bike...

ny300exrider I'm about the same size as you and I'm too big for a CR80. I'm not saying that you should go uot and buy a bike that is to big but a way that you can tell if it fits you is you sit on the bike and if you can just tuch your tipppy toes then you will grow into it and befor you buy test every thing out like cr80 cr125
crf150 xr200. and what ever you get a good deal on.

i would go with a nice used kx or rm 80-85 or even a 100. i have an 02 and love it its pretty much all bottom so its perfect for tight trails and is alot more mx track worthy than a crf150 if you like to hit those every once in a while. also if you do get a cr80 make sure to get the expert model as it sits a lil higher and would prob last a lil longer for you as far as growin out of. my buddy on a cr125 2002 model is always clutching and trying to stay on the pipe in the woods and its pretty dificult in the tight stuff but my bike you just point it maybe slip the clutch a lil and go. and most dealerships wont let you test ride stuff if your not16. i couldnt test my bike when it was new.

when i was 13 i got a cr 125 it was the perfect size..... i out grew that and now have a cr250 (im 16).... if your only gonna ride trails get a 4 stroke i would recomend honda but this is the crf250s first year so get a used yzf250:)

Learn how to jet a 2 stroke.

I could idle around in 1st gear all day on my 97 CR80 and it wouldn't load up or bog. Then I could just crack WFO it from anywhere in the rev range and it would accelerate just as it would if I rolled the throttle on. I can do the same on my 125.

I wouldn't get a CR80 for tight trails though. They ARE mostly top end. I rode mine in the woods, but it was a pain. The XR250 I had at the same time was 10 times better. I would look into a KX/RM100 or CRF150. Much better in the woods. The CRF would be your best bet since its a thumper, but the KX/RMs make alot of low end and torque for a 2 stroke, and they do all right in the woods.

sry to tell u this man but i had jets for every differnt degree of weather out there... what pipe i ran that day... and the track i was riding on bc of altitudes... don't say something unless u know what i had;)

i use to rejet my bike everyday for hte conditions i was riding in... it was that sensative to jetting...

I would imagine that if the cr125 is the slowest of the 125's that the cr80 would compare to other 80's the same way.

If i were you i wouldnt get a 125cc. I just got a rm 125 and it seems big to me.

hey guys thanks alot for all the info.i just got back from ridin my freinds 400ex and i fell in love.if i do still decide to get a bike itll be a crf 150 or 230 because i need the four stroke.i think i might scratch the idea and just save up until the new honda comes out and then try sellin the 300 and get that becasue i found a cool place to ride but its THICK sand and a bike would flat out suck so i think im gonna stay with quads. thanks so much for the help though

I bought my 14 year old son a 2003 CR85 , and we ride trails, it does OK , have to keep the plug changed out alot more, four strokes are nice but so are 2 strokes all depends on what you want.............if you take it easy alot 4 stroke is probably what you need if you rip it up alot more then 2 stroke..........they all have a different feel to both ,I have a 2002 400 EX with a few mods you can idle around or rip it up, the CR85 likes to be ripped out and the powerband is awesome , I cannot believe that it is only that small motor under you, I hear it will run the 125's , I don't know for sure though.....but it will rip your eyelids back...but I think with the way the EPA is headed 4 strokes are the wave of the future....take care

if i were you i would just get a ttr125l
my friend has a ttr-125, and tey are great in the woods, and he also races it too. Plus the little 80's are not that good in the woods, i had a kx80 and the tire would just spin, and dig in the mud. they are awsome track bikes. I don't really reccomend the xr100, cause it is small for its motor size. my kx also drank gas, i could not go a hour on a tank of gas...not joking

TTR-125
