my quad was in the back yard when it was stolen and my home owners covered it. i got REALLY lucky tho, usually they wouldn't cover it. i have heard tho that if its in your garage and somebody breaks in and steals it it will be covered but i have also heard otherwise. if you wanna be sneaky tell the insurance that you used it to maintain the property.

Juggalo is right, unless it's used for chores or plowing snow or what ever, it will not be covered by home owners it most cases. I had a '97 300ex stolen out of my locked garage one night a few years ago and I had never even thought about insurance for my quad since it was always kept in a locked garage and that home owners was SUPPOSED to cover everything inside the garage, but not true!! If it is used for recreational purposes, it will most likely not be covered! I learned the hard way. If you value your quad, get it's own separate insurance policy.

Play it safe...get insuarance specifically for the quad...for my 400ex its like $125ish a year.

Your homeowners will only cover it if you use it to service your property. And only ON your property. I found a $35 hitch for my 300ex so I can use it to pull a trail mower. Then I can say I use it to service the property. My wife works for an insurance co. so we know it works. I do recommend the individual atv policy for riding/travelling away from home though.

My insurance just went up a little bit because the company I was with discontinued carring atv policies, so I switched to another and now I think I pay $197.00 per year. But if you think about it, thats not all that much to pay for basically "full coverage" on your quad. I'm sure most people spend well over $200 a year on mods alone!! So save yourself the hassle of worrying about your quad getting stolen and just spend a couple of bills to insure it.

My state farm agent said no. He said since you can buy a policy specifically for it, no other policy will cover it.

Ins has changed a little bit in the past couple of years because Ins companies have been losing money. So be careful.

That's because State Farm is doing away with most of their personal policies like home auto etc... they will mostly cover businesses.

I've got Shelter Ins, they cover in the garage, but they must have V.I.Ns. They also lowball you for older Quads. Said my 86 R was worth $800.00 .Some Blue book BS.

Why don't you call your insurance agent and ask. Do you have ATV insurance?

You should check out travelers insurance, state farm, allstate etc. to see if they carry insurance on atv's and home owners. Better do it quick before its to late.....take it from someone that didn't put insurance on their trailer and it was stolen in the middle of the night, from a pretty well let building (my father in laws building) and the trailer was never seen again :( not to mensition (opps sp) the money that was put on the trailer to buy it!! :grr:

The way I look at it your better safe than sorry. ATV insurance has medical coverage if you would happen to be injured. At $200 a year it is not even a question in my mind. I would have to suggest State Farm, I have never had a complaint about them.
