i want to buy a dirt bike. I would prefer a 2 stroke. and i would make it street legal, and ride it more for the trails, it would be my first bike, but i own a 300ex w/ a twist throotle. i would preffer a 250 over 125, because i am a big guy, 5'9", and 225lbs, i am thinking about a kdx200, because it all ready has lights, and dirtrider says it is a good trail bike, would i beable to make this bike street legal?, or would i be better off geting a 250cc, or 125cc used motocrosser? or should i look for an xr400 or a 4 stroke? well thanks for the help.

well, i don't know about where you live but where i live you need to be 18 to get a motorcycle licence to drive on the street

also, a 4 stroke would be nicer since you can stop at the station and fill up instead of going home and mixing it up everytime, and a 4 stroke would probably be better for cruising to

The kdx would be a good choice. I think they are oil injected so you don't have to worry about mixing oil and gas.

Better get a thumper bud. Kdx isn't oil injected either. At our size a 250 and up 2 stroke or a 400 and up thumper is the way to go.

I picked up a wr 426 (because they rip unkorked) And it's been way faster then any modified xr400 or drz 400 I've ever come across. But neither one of those bikes are bad though either. In fact for going really, really slow (single track) they are both better (don't stall as much, and way easier to start. If you want a bike that's legal right away without a bunch of red tape. Get a street legal drz 400 right from the dealer, use the money in accesories for a set of dirt tires (dunlop d 756's) and a full exhaust system of your choice. Depending on how hard you ride, you may also want your suspension beefed up and stiffer (another reason I bought a wr, more moto oriented).

Hopefully my baja designs stuff will be here soon.

i dont mind mixing gas, i might rac a couple mx races also, i found another bike today, a 2000 yz125
so right no it is either a
2003 kdx 200 for $2500
or
a 2001 rm 250 for $3900
or a
2000 yz 125 for $2800

i dont have much money to play around with, only the money i will get from selling my 300ex, and a little extra.
the yz has been raced but is in exclent condition, the rm is in mint condition, never been raced, but the dealer does not want to budge on the price, and the kdx is in the worst condition, dented pipe, and dented siclencer, i havenot had time to talk to the dealer much about the kdx.

Get the rm 250, take 3500 cash with you.

I have, and still ride my 125 sometimes. For me to clear the jumps at our local track I have to take all outside lines for the ones comming out of turns, and have to use the clutch alot. The 250 will hold up longer over the long haul, and will be more fun in most trail riding situations that require power, sand-hills ect. I'm 200 n change , and you said your even heavier. Our wieght class stiffles 125's a bit for both uses. I still love 125's, but if you can have only 1 bike, get the 250, or a big thumper.

If I were you, I'd search around for a used yz400f. Should be able to find one as cheap as the rm, and you can do anything with that bike. They last forever too, if you take care of em.
