i will be adjusting my valves on my 400ex and have a question. i always read when you put the feeler guage in, make the adjustment so there is sight drag on the feeler guage. however, i also read that you need to make sure the next size up on the feeler guage won't fit. i tell you that when you put slight drag on the feeler guage and then tighten the nut, you will be able to get the next size up on the feeler guage in there. it won't be slight drag, but it will slide in and out without too much pressure. i am not sure what to do. i have adjusted the valves a little tight and a little loose and the bike does not seem to run any different when i race my friend on his 400ex. i would just like to know the proper technique. thanks

remeber it is better to have you valves a little loose than a little tight

If the next size up fits than it is not correct.Sometimes when I keep adjusting cause the next size fits I will drop down a size(if adjusting to .05 I will set with a .04 and then check with a .05)It takes a little patience but it works.
