Yes, you can get a small tachometer and mount it on your bars.

It depends on how the tach you buy tells you to hook it up. They usually consist of a simple wiring setup which shouldn't be too hard for the average person.

Probably somewhere off of the spark plug wire....

Ok, speaking purely in a general sense, tachs are hooked up with 3 or 4 wires.

Red - 12 Volt Constant power
Black - Ground
Green - Tach out signal (coil + wire, not spark plug wire)
White/ Yellow - 12 V Switched power (ignition switch)

Some tachs use and inductive pickup that clamps around the spark plug wire, but they have to be set up according to your engine (some engines have multiple sparks per combustion cycle).

Marky Nark at On-dunes Performance has an Autometer setup for a 400EX that includes excellent instructions on hookup. Just be careful that you follow any instructions carefully. Good luck

Some cheap tachometers have an inductive pickup that you just clamp around the plug wire... I would check out the Auto Meter tach you can get for the 400 from Wood Rotax (www.rotax.net). I believe this tach is virtually identical to the one that comes stock on the DS650 Baja.
