Anyway, there is lots of good pics of a mint stock 250R

I suppose he did not have a garage, and did not want to pay storage. Alot of people buy things and never use it, to put up and sell later. There are piles of classic cars, motorcycles, etc brought home from the dealer and put in storage. Not even driven from the dealer, but picked up on a flatbed wrecker to keep the odometer at 1 or 2 miles. This is done by serious collectors. Not worth alot at the time bought, but worth a mint 20 years down the road. I do work in a area that has many millionaires, you should see some of the never driven cars in their garages. Mint vettes, cadillacs, vipers, special edition harleys etc. Many with the plastic still on the seats and dash.

man damn...that is a sweet *** bike......
man screw all these Houser framed, Roll LT front ended MX ride's.
A bone stocker is my ".dream quad."

...I'd never ride it...

.....damn that things nice....needs a white frame.:blah:
Didn't they make '88-'89's with white frames?

hondafox440

That thing is mint and all, but if I was going to spend that kinda money on an R, why not buy a bored out R tricked out for MX for the same price?

"BLAHH"300!!
07-16-2003, 08:02 AM
...("In referance to thelast Post")...

Yeah, you could buy a Nicely moded R with alot of life left on it for what this stocker is going for.
.....But you gatta look at it like this though man, The Only dirt that this bike has ever come in contact with, came off some guy's thumb, when he cranked her over back in '89.
......Thats almst amazing.
It's been sittin, DRY for the last 15 years.

Hondafox,...Lets say i was into modding old muscle cars, suspention, motor and interior work fixed up to today's standards.
A real to of the line "cruiser" when i finished.
.....Then one day I find an old Mustang Thats bone stock, and been in some guy's home museam, sence the day he bought it, new.
.Elenore" from "...60 Seconds")....It's for sale, I don't think it's worth that much B/c it's bone stck, and i comprethe price o it to the price of the car's i've been selling.
Mine Ride better, thier faster, and the interior is all done up...but their not orriginals, and they prolly have a buncha mile's on em'.
...That's what make's this bike worth more than one exacty like it, that has been riden. The second one is just as clean as this one,
...but it's not MINT.....
It's worth $5000 to me man.
........(that was the price last time i looked.)
...somebody buy this MF and save it for me untill i can get it.....I bet the winning bidder cranks this thing up without thinking twice about what he has.....

.......I think i got a little emotional fora minute :ermm: :(

Blahh, I know exactly what you're saying.. That quad would make an excellent collection piece, if thats what you're into. All I'm saying is for me personally, who would rather ride and work on thier quad then keep it in a glass case, I wouldn't spend 5,200$ on that quad when I can get a modded MX one for the same price.

Liquid cooled R motors stayed the same from 85-89..... physically speaking,,,,,,,,,on the outside anyway............why do you think you can swap them;) .........of course colors changed,,,,but ............

nice bike,,,,very clean,,,,,,,,,,,but id have to say i like mine better,,,i can ride mine:D .....YES contrary to popular opnion:uhoh: my R does get ridden:p

And everybody has it backwards it seem s when it comes to the tires on the 400ex----------..........the so called "400EX tires" were originally used on the 88/89 250R. My original R tires (rims actually) are stamped with the date 7-87;)

i betcha ur right.. i dunno but arent the tires new? like the ones off of a 400ex? plus the bumper looks newer, and if ya notice, underneath it, theres a puddle of something, & if its always under a tarp, y would he wash it? & if he wiped it down, ya wouldnt get a puddle from that..

I know who his Michigan friend is with a restored 88 that IS better than that one. I bought the 88 I have from him, he showed me his other machines. His 88 is better than new, no one has sat on it since the restoration, every detail is exact. I made him put a selling price on it, 9500.00 would have bought it. I would never ride something like that. He claimed Honda wants to use his 88 for a photo shoot when they debut the new quad so we may see it when the time comes and it should be getting near from what he told me time-wise. We shall see....

The price is sitting at $7800 and the reserve still isn't met? What a load of BS.

If it WAS completely original, I could see it commanding a price like that, but not restored. It isn't worth near that much restored.

These relics are worth whatever someone's will to pay. I think these guys are getting carried away, it seems they're only in it for the money. I'm thinking with all these clean machines popping up for sale lately that Honda is going to give us another milestone quad that will kill the value of the old R's so these guys are trying to unload them at rather rediculous prices. Sure hope I'm right on both counts.....

The bumper is correct! The 88-89 had square pop outs and the ex's are round! the color is correct!!

You can't buy all the of parts from honda ! Lke the frame, correct seat cover ( new ones are black) mastercylinder and other misc.parts

So the answer is not you can not buy all the pars and build your own new 88 250r !!

I just bought new oem '89 plastic and it is only $190 for the front fenders & $200 for the rear. The earlier years are a little cheaper. I bought a quad tech hood so I'm not sure what a oem hood costs but I doubt more than $50. Check Service Honda.
