Well, I FINALLY got my bike finished. I never thought that building a quad would be this much of a pain in the *****, but now that it is done, I would probably do it again. What do you think?

I have always loved the YZ motors. There is nothing out there that pulls like them, but I here the new Yamaha 450 is nice. I just wanted something that was different from every one else. I am going to ride it until winter then ai am going to have Lost Creek and have it turned to w 440 with all the goodies. Then I guess I will find another one and start all over again. I figure my next project will be a cross country bike.

Took me about three and a half months. Mainly because I looked and shopped around. All I can tell you is this. After going thru what I went thru with some of the people I bought parts from, I will never build another one unless I can buy all new stuff. I am not going to name names, but I bought a Pro Trax front end (new arms, 1 year old spindles and stem) from a guy for 1600. They are like 2300 new. Well, when I got it in, the stem was bent. When I called to getit straight he tried to tell me that it was either bent in shipping or I bent it. Ok, I had never used it, and you could ship one of these without any packing and UPS couldn't bend it. To bend it, you have to flip the quad it came off of. So, after buying a new 450 buck stem, I would have been just as good to buy a new one and not have to deal with waiting a month on the stem. And then there was that little ***got Rawex or Meanex, whatever the hell he wants to call himself, he stole 115 bucks from me on an oil tank. But thats ok, I know his address and will "make it up to him one day."

As far as how much I have in it, well I parted out my Lovins 265R to pay for a lot of the stuff like the frame and motor, and most of the front end. I paid for the shocks, axle, bars. I used a lot of the 250R stuff I had laying around like calipers, brakes, etc. If you were going to build from scratch, you are probably looking at around 15 grand. Trust me, buy one built before you try to build one, it is much easier and cheaper in the long run.

Damn man ur exsperience must suck. I built mine this winter as well I put it in stock EX frame and all the rest was aftermarket. But i enjoyed building it,it was as fun as riding it. After doing what i did i have 8K invested in parts, i could get 8k right now for my bike complete which is pretty good. After building this i dont think id ever waste my money on a production bike. I suggest building alot cheaper. But if u put the motor in a 250R frame that wasnt made for the YZ then u must of had to do some cutting.

I didn't use a 250R frame, I used a brand new LSR 426 frame. I do have buddy who put a 426 in a Leager 250x frame, and I tell you, it is one of the most custom jobs I have seen. It's not like I hated building it, it is just the the little things that you can't control that got under my skin a little. Now that it is done, I love it, so it was worth it.

ok ..thanks guys! I will prolly go with something along the lines of OutlawEX's with a stock renforced frame. But right now I am only 14..so i will probably mod my dale untill im 16 or 17 then start building one!
