If you spend a few hundred dollars more you would be able to get a 2000-2002 model. There is a topic called "Dirtbikes" on the open forum and there has been a lot of discussion about them. YOu should check it out.

If your not going to be racing Nationals a used bike will be fine, all practicality you are generally going to beat your bike and be harder on it trail riding it for a day then you will for 2 moto's at the track. If you havent rode a bike before and just wanna play, get a 250cc it has more low and and will stall less if your putting and you wont have to scream it to have fun. Unless you like ridding in the top end "as I do" then get a 125, they rip too.
Remember to respect the power on a 250cc they are no joke my friend. You can easily get in over your hear, thats why some folks say get a 125 for your first bike if your tall enough...but if you respect it you will be fine and its easier to jump a 250cc as you need to rev it less and can jump with a shorter take off ramp and generally just a good all around woods and track bike in my opinion. I have had a few of each cc's.
Enjoy what ya get, dont get a 97 YZ get a 98 KX 250 if you can or a 2000+ YZ but really anything will be fun. thats over a 98.

Newer the better. The '98 KX 250 was a fast motor. The '00+ cr's are good. The best used bike you can get is an '02 YZ 250 - they have the best all around power and turn really well. Of course, I am biased but, I haveowned all flavors within the last 5 years and I much prefer the YZ to any of them.

The 96-01 YZs changed very little. That's a good deal for that bike, and it is nearly identical to the 01 model. I would go for it.

When did you become a dealer?
Suggested Retail represents the price a dealership might ask for this make and model. The retail price is not a trade-in or private-party value, but rather assumes that a dealer has absorbed the cost of making the unit ready for sale, advertising, sales commissions, arranging financing and insurance and standing behind the unit for any mechanical or safety problems.

I bought a '94 KX250 in 1999 for $1800 and it came with boots, helmet, piped, etc.
I am afraid that $1,500 is a little optimistic but, you never know. The area your in also has a lot to do with what the value is as well.

Thats the price u would get for it from selling it to a dealer....they dont give you what u can really get for it if u sold it priveatly im goin by that not trade in cause im not sellin it to a dealer....Im not a dealer ithere buddy the dealers need to make something off the bike so they buty it cheaper fix whatever is wrong with it and try to make enough money for it

Oh yeah! Well I got my bike, w/ Pro Taper bars and DID Gold X-ring chain, for $5,900 OTD. Since thats like 3 times as much as what yall are asking, I don't think the $200 difference yall are arguing about makes any difference anyways. You can't really say how much something is worth untill you know in how good of shape it is and if it will stay running for a long while.
realisticly your gonna get 1-12 for your old yz...if it was a mint cr u might get 1500

i dont want a fourstroke 250.
me and my brother split the price on it. so i get half of whatever we sell it for. thats why i only will have a lil over two grand to play with;)
