changing clutch lever

i'm changing the stock clutch lever and perch on my 300ex. i was just wondering if anyone knew what the two wires that are running to the stock perch were for.

i just cut them apart and black taped them together.. thats what allows you to start in gear.

I did exactly what 300EX_MAN did when I got my PEP ez pull clutch lever and perch. The only thing is becareful because if you hit the starter button when its in gear and you dont have the clutch pulled in it will jump forward with you.
