400ex Problem Maybe!

Im not sure if its a problem or not.....i got a 2002 Honda 400ex that is totally stock and i noticed now and then when i push the throttle quick and let go quick...it wont rev, but it will just kinda pop or miss and it even died one time! anyone know whats going on?

Is the quad completely warmed up or does this happen within several mionutes after starting?

I would start with the air filter and work to the carb, Take off the carb bowl and check for deposits, clean it and also check your plug to see how it is running.

I replaced my plug, and it still didnt fix it...the plug where it gets the spark was a tannish color...

also it doesnt do this all the time maybe 2-3 times in 2 hours? It seems to of started doing after i was riding in my backyard where its dusty, i looked at my air cleaner though and it dont look to dirty i also just cleaned my air cleaner... i think im just gonna get a K&N.

also would having deposits in my carb make it do that?

if its only once in awhile or when you hit some bumps then you propably have some dirt in the carb.get a can of carb cleaner,take it apart and clean it up.Just pay attention to where your air screw is set at.

prolly the air filter, i bet its so dirty that the filter cant suck in enough air to match the gas its getting, which is causing it to back fire or pop

It sounds like the accelerator pump is not working,try to adjust it by bending the pump lever down just a bit.. You will like the difference!

alright thanx for the advice...and i just cleaned my air filter its a lil dirty but dont look like anything to worry about! and where is the accelerator pump? i have never worked on it or anything so im not familiar where anything is

Itis behind the palstic cover where the throttle cable goes! You wil see a lever that goes down when you open the throttle, bend the arm down just a little and it will give you great throttle response!!

my 400 did the same thing when i bought it, i took the bowl off the carb and cleaned all the chit out of it , not to mention one of the jets was in there to, after that it ran like a champ.
