Whenever I am riding and I give it some throttle it revs up really loud but no power is put out but then it gets the power and goes. Its hard to explain but it feels like im in hitting the throttle in the middle of the gear and the tires loose traction, spin, then hook up and I go. But my tires arnt doing that. Could it be jetting? I have the stock sizes in. Could my carb be dirty? Please help.

Sounds like your clutch is slipping.

Does the 400EX have a wet clutch? If so, then you don't want to use automotive motor oil.

I use Mobil 1 15w 50 synthetic. Is this bad?! How much are new clutch plates and springs, where can I get them. Why do you hope im not using a synthetic oil?

I will guarantee that when you take out your clutch you will find that its not completely worn out that you have glazed the clutch discs and the pressure plates will be discolored and blue in color. Synthetic oil will glaze your clutch in a 400 ex and cause premature failure and major slippage. You can buy a full kit from your local dealer, or any on-line store.

For example a Barnett clutch ( with plates, discs, and springs, along with side cover gasket runs about $110.00

Dont forget to change your oild befor you run the new clutch.

clutch plates glaze because they overheat or lack of oil...synthetic oil slicks everything up...and yes clutch plates can and will glaze with regular honda oil

So should I continue using Mobil 1? After I get my new clutch kit?

in my opinion yes...you might want to run the first couple hours on the new clutch on some regular oil im not sure but if it was me i would continue the mobil its your bike and your choice

Someone already suggested you get a Barnett clutch kit, but it all depends on what you want, what is available, and how deep your pockets are.

The synthetic oil is not what is causing your clutch to wear out. I use mobil1 15w50 in all my bikes. It has no friction modifiers, unlike most car oils. Clutches eventually wear out, no matter what kind of oil you use.
