Go to your local DMV or licensing place (like for your license plates) and ask them what you need to do, they are the only people who can tell you if its even possible in your state...

pretty sure it's only possible in AZ and maybe a couple of other states out west :ermm:

Not sure what state you are in, but Michigan says there is absolutly positivly no way to street legalize an ATV. Bare minimum in other states looks something like:

1. Headlight-with high and low beam switchable
2. Brake/ Tail lamp - Taillamp on with headlamp, brake light on with brakes applied (duh)
3. One or Two side-rear view mirrors
4. Horn
5. Turn signals-may not be needed, but must use hand signals if not equipped
6. DOT approved tires-Razrs or Holeshots don't count
7. not legal, but safety and reliability sake, you should get a rear differential. Otherwise, it is a major stress on the axle everytime you corner.
8. Snell approved helmet-same as riding a motorcycle

and probably a speedometer

now what pisses the fuc! out of me is the cops around here have a utility quad that they made street legal so they can patrol, my dad talked to them and told them that he was ganna put all that stuff on his quad and make it street legal (he was being sarcastic since he new they would say he can't) and of course they said you can't, so since he already knew they would say that he was like, why the hell not?, you did it and you can drive it on the street legaly.....thats rediculous, hey, i might just look into it

that really pisses me off is the cops think they can do it but tell us it is illegal, i mean if we do and get everything done to it we need to and get it insured and have a valid licenses there is no reason we shouldn't be able to since the cops did it.

i needed to blow off some steam sorry....i know cops want it to do there job better but come on, this is just going to bring conflicts to every quad owner, cause this is just stupid:grr:

Hey, whats the deal with the Raptor on that website having only three wheels? Heres my guess: State of CA requires any road vehicle with 4 wheels to be registered as a car or truck, right? And then there is a whole new level of modifications. But with three wheels, you can register it as a custom motorcycle.

As far as the police in IN riding a quad, I'm not quite sure of the laws in IN, but here in MI, the police have to follow the same laws as private citizens. Example; a police car is considered a private vehicle unless it has its lights and/ or sirens on. It is just as illegal for a squad car to speed without flashers or siren as it is for a private citizen to speed. Therefore, if we can't ride quads on the roads, neither can they. You may want to contact the state police and have them begin an investigation if it bothers you that much. Frankly, I think it is a good idea that they have a quad. Quads can run down someone fleeing faster than a cop on foot.

That really pisses me off, I would love to ride a quad to work... it gives the same gratification of a motorcycle & is way more relaxing when you're tired in the morning. IMO, an ATV is way safer than those awkward *** trikes w/car tires on the back & some oversized car engine hiding under the seat. I have heard that those things do not handle well at all.

My personal opinion for a street legal ATV would have to be the DS650. It has front tire fenders that are not gonna flap in the wind, it's weight would not be a factor on the street & its big liquid cooled 650 could be regeared to cruise at highway speeds & above:)

Arctic Cat makes a street legal quad. You can only buy it over sea's though. Here is a pic of it.

Just because it is legal overseas does NOT mean it will be legal here, we have many different laws ,such as emissions and crash test laws, i highly doubt you will see any street legal quads in the US any time soon :ermm:

I agree. If you do go ahead with making one. It will cost alot and be a pain to get tags and everything for it

i just think it is rediculous that cops can do it and we can't, cops around here are like that a lot, like, the sherrif got 3 or 4 dui's but he writes em left and right, i think we finally got that s.o.b out of there, but i mean the same person writing dui's recieves em?:huh and he is a cop, and better yet a sherrif!:eek2:, he saw my friend take a drink while he was driving so he hurryed up and pulled him over, and of course it was a soda, and he said "im ganna get ya next time"......i mean....omg

there is one cop that is a complete idiot, my dad turned into a side road and the cop started pulling out before my dad was completed with the turn, so my dad is almost off the road and this cop pulls out onto the road and then slams on his brakes and yells at my dad and says "hey!, watch out, your lucky im in a hurry or i'd write you up" my dad just looked at him and shook his head since that cop was the one who frickin pulled out when my dad was right there already 3/4 done with the turn

also, there was a cop goin 75 in a 65 for a long time, with no sirens or anything, that is bullshi!, so we just followed along right with him because he had no lights on and couldn't really do anything, but i know he would have if he was in a bad mood

i've seen cops drive normal, then they come to a red light and turn there lights on so they can go through, i saw that once or twice, but maybe they were doing some silent chase, or not in that much of a hurry to get to a crime or something, but then again maybe not

don't get me wrong, i have a lot of respect for cops, they keep us safe but there are a couple cops around here that are just complete morons, but other than that i like em

and i said before "i needed to blow off some steam sorry....i know cops want it to do there job better but come on, "
so i know they want it to improve things but i have seen them ride it and they really don't look like they could do anything on it by the way they ride, and it has a top speed of like 40 or 45,

my inputs:ermm:

Go live in Belgium ;)

Belgium is too close to France. Besides, your gas or "petrol" is too expensive there. On a side note, I have to fly to Germany on business later this year, and I almost had my company convinced to pay shipping to have my quad sent over there. They squashed my hopes when we found out that I could almost buy a used one for the cost of round trip shipping!

i don't understand how your hobbies are street racing and you ride your quad on the street when your not even old enough to have your license, because i looked in your profile..........so, your either a kid that does many illegal things or your just a lyin son of a bi!tch

he's full of crap, you cant legally take a quad on any street in the us

You can take your quad on down the road only when a "state of emergency" is declared for your county.
We had a huge ice storm here in New York back in March. It took down trees, powerlines and phone poles. A state of emergency was declared. We were taking our quads all over to check on people and help out. We saw the police and thought they would bust us for riding on the street. The police merely informed us not to ride in the street after the state of emergency was lifted.
Neat huh?

BULL***** !! There's 3 or 4 towns in WV that you can ride your quad as it is street legally! I know this b/c about 12 of us did this back in April! We rode for over 85 miles on a four lane highway and passed 2 sheriff's with their hand up waving!:blah: Wish it was like that here! That was an awesome experience!:D

MITrail400ex It sounds like you've checked (in depth) the michigan laws on making a Quad street legal. Does it say anything about three wheeled vehicles like the California laws. It doesnt look like it would be to hard to make a conversion like on that raptor posted on the previous reply.:D
