If he can barely handle the 250ex, then no, he doesnt need the 400. I had a 400ex when I was between 11 and 12, but I had been riding a warrior for a couple years before that. 2 Weeks after I had my 400 I was clearing my cousins 45 foot table top with it. The warrior would bottom out if I went over the lip in first. Since I've had the 400 I have gotten a ton better.

when I was 13 I had a cr250, massive power:D . Then at 14 I switched to quads, a 400. Sure he can handle it you would be wasting money buying a small one first and then advancing to a 400. Thats what is great about the 400, it's rider friendly

My gf's bro is only 9 and he rides his dads Banshee that has an incredible top end. He also rides their Warrior and 400ex...he handles it fine. Its not the age of the person, its the maturity level and riding ability.

Should all 16 yr olds be able to drive a car....NO!! same difference IMO!:blah:

peace

When my brother was 13 he could ride my 400ex great. He has a 300ex he is really good with it.

It all depends on the kid, so could go without killing themselves on a 400ex and some can't. I find it kind of sad if they can't ride a 400ex without hurting themselves.

A kid I know has a z400, well he was one of those ****ty drivers. He had a quite a bit of hours on it, and he drove into the back of a Artic Cat 4x4. I think it was $1400 damage on the Artic Cat.

i got my 400 when i was 14 that was in april but im too big for anything but a 400. i'm 6'0 180lbs. but i can handle it just fine. Just make sure you are around when he rides it until he gets used to it.

My 13 yr old son rides our 400 w/ no problems! But his ride is a blaster he's thinking about racing a RM250 this winter so we'll see.....his Uncle put him on it yesterday & couldn't believe the kid went out 1st time on it & was jumping & hitting some good ones too!! Glad I wasn't there LOL:eek: He can't touch the ground hardly but I guess he can ride the chit outta it!! I think if they can ride it.....let em'!!!!! Unless of course they are way too small for it.

Well really who cares if a 3 year old can race a banshee, or you had a quadzilla when you where 5. Etc...
Honda states that no children under 16 should be allowed to ride a 400EX. Does it mean anyone cares, probably not.
But when that little tyke gets into an accident and gets sued by someone, guess who gets screwed... the parents for letting the kid operate a machine thats considdered "high performance". Who does it affect. All of us really. ATV's(rights) have it bad in case no one has noticed. It's no different then the morons who don't wear helmets. Just MHO.

Well, have you actually thought about their "16 yr old" rule or whatever you wanna call it? Do you really think a 15 year old kid (generally speaking) could fit on a 90cc mini? More than likely...no.

In my experience, it would be the maturity of the rider that determines what they should ride. :)

def. not! if he cant handle a 250 the 400 is gonna be waay too much power for him, its like double the amount of power...try him on like a 300 or somethin and slowly work him up so that he can handle bigger quads like that

i totally agree with everyone else it depends on how mature of a rider the kid is..but i am 14 and i just learned how to ride about a year ago and that was on my 2002 honda 400ex and i didn't think it was to much power if anything not enough!:D ..but i mean i just depends on how well he can ride and if you think you can trust him with a machine like that
