First thing i have to say is that anyone who disses Suzuki or Honda shouldnt own or ride atv's! ALl you ever hear about the z's are the "Cracked Frames". I have had my Z for over 7 months and i have done everykind of racing/riding there is and havent had a sign of a cracked frame anywhere. If you want a race machine for under $6,000 buy a Z add a pipe, tires, and air filter and you will be ready to race! I have a z with a team suzuki Yoshimura pipe,Tires,And an air filter and i can beat any quad you bring on except for a 250R! Thumbs up to Suzuki for making the best quad yet!

my friend has broke his frame in 2 places, broke the steering stem holder oner thing off, bent his axle twice, broke the sinwgarm adjuster too. suzuki puts crappy carburators and chain adjusters on em. they feel like they have a high seat and tippy. really the only thing i do like about the quad is the motor and my EX is faster anyways. the Z had the potential to be a great quad but suzuki blew it. hopefully they will release a new quad racer with their new 450 4 stroke bike motor and get it right this time. oh yeah crappy tires too.

I will tell you one thing. You will get beat by the YFZ450. Go to yfzracer.com and watch the videos. It blows away the modded Z and is very very close to beating a 70+ horsepower banshee. The banshee pulls away by one bike length. :macho

Thats funny, because I haven't had a Z-400 finish in front of me in a race yet. Wanna hear something even crazier?.......I even beat 250R's occasionally

a pipe, tires, and a filter wont make a quad anywhere near race ready, in most places kill switches and nerf bar are maditory

i have a hard time believing you can beat cannondale's, but as long as you enjoy you quad, thats all that really matters. i would not want to buy a 6000 dollar quad and decide i hated it:scary:

You took the words out of my mouth. The Z400 is nothing to get excited about, its a tad faster, and has half the strength of a 400ex....not exactly a winner there, lol.

ya i am not happy with my z400 either... it is the worst thing to work on mechanicly.. i think everything was pushed into a 400ex frame and then it was made cheapier... i fell everything is crambed in so tight, it is hard to get to the oil tank dip stick, the plastic is ***** to get off... it is just not the user friendly machine...
i like the power of it, but it isn't all that, my ex and the stock z are very close... except the z400 sits so much higher and is tipier then my ex... if i would have a choice between the 2 i would deffently buy the 400ex over the z400.... unless the z400 was totaly decked out to hell and back....

What are you smoking? The Z400 is a fine quad. So was the 250R but there are a number of stock quads that are better than both depending on what you want to do. Lets see...

Mudding: Griz 660, P650, Vinson 5 speed

Sand: Shee's, LT500, Glamis, DS Bomb

MX: Moto, YFZ450

Go Suzuki!

Within the next 2 years, I'm gonna probrably replace my hopped up warrior (the banshee stays, need a thumper for long trail rides) with a hi performance thumper, and so far the new yamaha is the lead candidate. The other guys on here that own, or have ridden a yz or wr 400,426,450f will know what I'm talking about. I wanna see what kind of competition honda will give it first though.

A friend of mine that works at a dealer siad that Suzuki is replacing the frames under warranty. I'm not sure how long they warranty their frames for though. I'd call the dealer. It's worth a shot. I rode one recently and liked it but it does have a high seat. I think with a better frame it would be one of the better machines.

i would still trade my 400ex for a z400, i would just reinforce the frame to hell.
my 2 friends have a kfx400 and a z400
the z400 is ridden VERY VERY hard, we were hitting 45ft tabletops (not that big) woops and doubles and there was no sign of cracks. the first week thay had it, his dad took it off a double and fliped it, it fliped 2 times and landed.....the only things were broken light bent bars and scratched fenders...thats it, no frame problems. the dip$hit also did a wheelie over our septic mound, and hit the big cement manhole, broke that, and smashed hit bumper, no frame prob there either.
i have also rode it i agree 100% that it feels taller and strange. Buti would still trade my ex on one.

my friend had to bring his Z in for a new frame. it cracked right above the right shock mount. I told him since it was under warrenty still to get it fixed. the place told him that if they got too many more of cracked frames, that zuki was gonna have a recall on them. other then that, his machine has been perfect, its about a year old now.

If the z-400 is so good.... why are they not doing anything at the tracks?? I don't see ANY at the tracks we ride in Fl. They maybe good for aot of different styles of riding. The hard riding of mx is too much for them. And you sure can't compare them to the 250R's. They have dominated at the track since 1986. NO..NO other Quad has EVER done that! AND... they only made them for 4 years. WOW that's one bad QUAD:D

I do hope that last post was supose to be a joke.......................
the 400ex may not be the replacement for the 250r but........
lt230racer, by you saying you cant pop a wheelie ? slipping clutch ? smoking ?
the 400ex is one of the easiest things in the world to ride a wheelie on.
the 400ex is on of the most reliable atv's made.
the 400ex was #1 selling atv for years.
lt230racer you really insulted yourself.

Listen to what you just said..... z400 with **** loads of aftermarket parts vs. STOCK 450r.... obviously if you put a lot of money into a decently fast quad your going to beat fast quads that come stock.... to me the "dad used to race pro" is what every person says when they beat someone... "o i must be amazing because they used to be pro" bunch of bs if you ask me.. and you also have to remember that that 450r would absolutly tear apart your z400 on a track.

Every single person in this thread have talked about how bad the frame is, and how high/tipsy it is... does drag racing have anything to do with any of those problems?

yeah your right it is one bad quad. the 250R's were made in 1986 and they would still beat more than half of the quads out there.

you underestimate them!

and so what if it was only made for 4 years does that make it a bad quad?......NO

and yes they used to dominate the track 4 or 5 years ago before the 450's

Now I'm not saying I like z's but you don't have to bash on someone just because they like there own quad.

You have to remember the 250R and the Banshee where popular alot because they made them in the highest volumes. Yes the 250R especially the 88'~89' were and still are great bikes. However a LT500r with the same mods will smoke one. The banshee has been arround for 19yrs, if Suzuki continued to make the 500, it would have continued to blow them away, I have owned Honda, kawasaki, and suzuki.

Like someone said they are all kinda pos's compared to what they should be for the money. all need mods/ fixes to be right.

I don't know about a Z400, but I rode a 400EX once, and it entirely sucked, compared to a 89' 250R, I like the 200X three wheeler better. I have owned a 86' KXT250 Tecate three wheeler, had to be the best three wheeler of all time, not enough people owned them to really know how awesome they were ( mags picked the 250R) The one with the radiators on the tank not the bars ( and I rode every three wheeler of interest)

I owned a LT500R quadzilla, still even today is a bad bike in the dunes. Stock banshees can't compare, ask someone who's owned both.

Now I have a LTR450 has to be one of the best quads so far, with the right tires it's an impressive bike.

That said, most bikes seem to be lacking somewhere. We need more power, less wieght, I like the wider stances, more suspension, easier to work on. Both times I bought Suzuki it was because no one made a bike I was really excited about like these models. Honda never made a fourtrax 500R, Suzuki never made a LTR700

the Z400 looks as if one of the best bikes for the masses ever made (on paper, never rode one) but I have ridden a 400EX and I don't think I would ever buy one, the front suspension was incredibly bad in my opinion.

Hoping the future brings the super quad I've been waiting for, right now the LTR450 with all it's technology is the closest thing...
