300ex throttle housing on a 250r?

ive herd a 300ex throttle housing will work on a 250r.

when i went to use the housing, i used a 300ex throttle housing and a stock 250r throttle cable. i hooked everything up and the throttle only pulled the slide in the carb 1/2 open, even with the cable adjusted where the cable connect to the housing, it still doesnt work.

would i need a 300ex cable to use the housing? and is a 400ex/250x simuliar cables? im asuming i need a throttle cable that can be adjusted in 2 spots, where it connects to the carb, and where the cable meets the housing
