i put up a post on here before about me getting beat by a stock 400ex. This kid i am racing has stock jets, K&n filter, and shaved fenders, and he is beating me and i have uni filter, e series slip on,header welds ground out, shaved fenders, and a 155 main jet. i dont get it?!?!?! he pulls away from me top end by like 2-3 mph. the only thing i can think of is that my jetting is still off?!?! i run my e series without the discs, and with the 155 it still backfires when i let off the gas. why am i getting beat still?

how much do you weigh and how much does he? That makes a big difference.

How far are you racing? There is so many variables that none of us can tell you whats wrong.

Like seven said, whats the gearing on your 2 quads. If it is a really long race and your running stock tires and 14th sprocket and he has 22's and stock spocket, he is going to beat you.

If it's a short race, you should beat him.

Who is winning of the line?

And put your disks back on. The disks are what makes the power of an e-series. Toss about 8 or 12 on there and see what happens.

his is a 2002 stock gearing, i weigh about 5-10 lbs less then him. the wheeler he's racing, beats him off the line, to top end. midrange to top end. and top end he cannot catch up to me, but stays 1 bike length behind me. remember though, zoom400ex dont have a snorkle, so that will make it alittle leaner cheetah. only thing i can think of is wrong plug, or your cable isnt letting the carb open all the way

Lex I never said he was running lean. I simply stated that an E-Series exhaust system relies on the disks it has to make its power. Increasing disks gives more low end torque, while decreasing gives them more top end. 8 disks is as low as you would want to go with anything. I run 12 in mine. He stated he is running no disks in his e-series. This would make it run a lot worse. I am saying that if he puts about 8 or 12 disks on, he will see a great power difference. White Bros. even says that running without disks will cause your bike to run like crap. Snorkel or not, put some disks on that thing and that might cure your problem.

If it backfires when you let off the throttle, you're lean. Before I did my 416, I was running an E-Series(18 discs) with no airbox lid, a Uni, and a 165 main. If your airbox lid is gone and you're anywhere near sea level, you need at least a 160 main.

Well hope this helps, I have an e series with 12 discs, a 165 main jet, dropped the clip on the needle one position and went up one size on the pilot and have never came close to losing to a stock 400 GOOD LUCK
