So, now that I know that I am eventually getting a quad I need to know which one best suits me. I went to the dealership today and looked at the 300ex and I noticed that it was pretty ugly. So, then my friend was telling me to get the 250ex and I agreed. But he is getting the 400ex and I dont wana feel left out when he is blazing down the trails:rolleyes: Hopefully he wont..

I've never rode a quad before and I dont know how to work a clutch so I dont know if I should get the 400. My friend tells me not to get it because it has to much power, and I dont need it. Now some guy "Sparks" on this forum is telling me that the 400 has no power? Im 12, I am 5'7" and weigh around 140.

Im stuck, what should I get. A 400 or a 250?

Thanks

Lol I made this screename when I was a very new kid on the block. Now I am still a semi-new kid on the block, so to speak.. I mean since I have never rode, I need to start on something smaller to get basic skills. Not even to wreck the quad, dont ya think?

i think you would grow into the 400 very well...in a couple of years yer not gonna be wanting that 250ex :D

learning a clutch isn't that hard...and the 400ex is a very forgiving quad to learn to ride on. hope that helps make yer decision :)

Couldn't I sell it?

300ex is prob the ugliest out of all the ex's, but i still think it looks pretty bad ***. 300ex has reverse which might be useful when learning how to ride a quad, i know it has already saved me a couple times, particularly at the dunes! i just got a brand new 300ex and i love it. *edit* you can't upgrade a 250 very much, you can upgrade a 300 and a 400 a ton though!

well you have no expirience with riding and your a younger rider so id go with the 250ex there resale doesnt drop mucha nd you can get the hang of how to handle it once you do get a 400ex and ull be fine

I would suggest the 400ex. The only problem that I would see you having would be no reverse, but you are going to grow so that would hopefully take care of itself. Just remember to respect the power and don't ride past your ability and you will be okay.

Everybody must want me to die or something. I have never ridden before, I will probably kill myself!:cuss:

I dont know yet, I still have some time before I get one..

I would say personally, get a 250ex, to fit your body size, and considering your new to the sport. These guys here say 400ex because most of them think if you dont got a 400ex, you dont got ****.

For some reason now I think I am pretty convinced to get a 300EX? It looks, okay..

Yea, 300ex would be nice to, good learning quad and you wont grow out of it for awhile.

Dont let the looks stand in your way. Your too big for the 250ex, to small for the 400ex. So the 300ex seems perfect for you. I would also look into a Blaster if you plan on getting a 300ex.

BTW, your pretty big for your age. You wont have a prob handling the 300 and the clutch isnt hard to learn. Good luck.

does a water-skier tell the driver to pull him at 50 mph? Just because a Porsche GT2 can go 198 mph, do you think everyone takes it that high?

...my point...just because the power is there, DOESN'T mean you HAVE to the throttle burried! If you can afford it, i say go for the gusto. Get the 400 now. The clutch is EASY to learn. As long as your not a complete RETARD, you can understand that you should only use as much throttle as you can handle. Gun it once, buck yourself off the back and watch the quad drive away from you...that helps the learning process  Resale on the 250/300ex isn't all that great and you'll be kicking yourself in the arse when its time to step up the the big leagues and you can't get enough for your 250/300

or.....since you are inexperienced, why not get an older used quad?! SEVERAL advantages....CHEAPER....get experience working on quads (when it brakes on ya:p )....if/when you crash, your not out that much. Then, once you have your feet wet, THEN go get you a nice shiny new toy.

....just my thoughts

i totally agree. Why should he get a 250ex then only a year later have to go through the trouble of selling it saving up again then getting a 400ex. Just go for the 400ex now. You will learn on it no problem. I bought a 400ex for my first quad and learned how to shift on it too. Then you dont have to worry about upgrading for a couple of years. :)

i would suggest the 400ex also. i had a 300ex that i bought last july. i had it not even six months and sold it and bought a kfx400. so if u want honda then i would go 400ex becuase of the power.

I think he was looking for somthing with not alot of power. That might even be a little much.

Don't be a lil girl. Get a 400. Just cause it has a ALOT(Not Really) of power doesn't mean that ya gotta ride it to the bar...

if you 12 and have never riden a quad before they you need to start out with a 250ex and in two years or so you'll want a 400ex or something like that. Which is good becuase their will always be a market for a 250ex becuase theres new people entering this sport everyday. And in a few years the 400ex will be avable for a dime a dozen :)
