My 400ex is leaking oil out of the base of the motor right next to the plastic skid, and it kinda looks like it is coming out the the seal around the shifter. It just started doing this like 2 months ago and i cant understand why?? it only leaks when it is hot and right after a decent ride. someone help me out here on what i can do to stop this?

Probably need a new shift shaft seal.

yep, 4traxrider is right. The reason it's happening when it's hot or after a ride is because you have now warmed up the oil and it is thinner so it can escape easier. I replaced mine when I had my whole engine apart but someone else mentioned that you could change it from the outside by using any sort or hooking tool and pull the old one out with the gear shifter off of course. If I remember correctly the seal is just a rubber coated stamped washer of of sorts that has a spring around the shaft hole. So be sure to oil the inside of this so you have a fresh seal when sliding it on and dont tear the new rubber. Should be an easy fix. Good luck!
