As alot of you know, Im taking a duning trip next week, and Troy wanted to throw in some race gas of some kind. What would be a safe fuel for a stock machine? I do run a full system Yoshi ,but no other motor mods.. I want to get some HP out of this baby for draggin and climbing some bigger stuff! Thanks ahead of time,.;)

mix in a gallon of VP C-12 with 4 gallons of 91. That will give you something like 95 octane. That should be plenty of octane to keep her nice and happy....and cool too.

I would also say VP C-12 but I would add 93 or 94.:D

I have always ran a 91. Can I run anything around 100 octane? Is it a Methanol, ect... Ive never ran race gas but I know it runs around 4.50 a gallon, but Im willing to pay if for the trip if I can run it:devil:

Giz400ex,

You obviously live in a state OTHER than Cali. 91 is premium down here. If I could get 94 at the pump, I would, then I wouldn't have to add a gallon or 2 of C-12 to MY 416 when I ride.

QJ,

A 5 gallon can of VP C-12 is like $40. You CAN run 100 octane, like Sunoco UL100, if you can find it. VP is available everywhere. The lead in the VP is good for the motor, it helps keep it cool. I wouldn't run straight VP in a stock motor, but a little bit surely won't hurt.

ok, now I was told to get aviation fuel, because it oxygenates better, than race gas, and to run ijt 50/50 on a stock motor, and it leans it out (and Im going up 2500 in elevation anyhow) are your thoughts the same on this theory?>

Yeah, I live in NY and 93 is at every station and 94 is not as common as 93 but its around.:D

I Agree!! I wouldn't even mess with it. It could mess your jetting up and make your bike run even worse. unless you put a different piston in there I wouldn't even worry about running race fuel. Save your money that you would spend on some race fuel and get a Cam and Piston first then you could start running some race fuel if you wanted.

QJ,

You REALLY don't need any race gas, I was simply pointing out, you could add a little for extra octane. Running up to say 95 octane will do no damage, but will offer no real benifits either, unless you have some mods. A little extra octane never hurt, and will keep the machine a tad cooler....that's all. Before my mods to my 400ex, I ran straight 91 with no probs. With a water cooled machine, this should be just fine. An air cooled machine with detonate on lower octane fuel.

As far as AVgas is concerened, I wouldn't risk it.

Glamis THnaks. I never knew too much about the differences and Pros and OCns to running the fuel, so Im glad to know now. I would never want to mess up my Quad so Ill run Premium......:)

Here is another idea call this number for imfo (800)345-0076
this is the imfo line for 76 racing fuels. They can tell you more than you want to now. And also were to purchase it to at a pump or in 5 gallon cans. Ask about Cool Blue.
