I finally got to fire up my FDO 493 motor tonight. It runs awesome!! Rode it up and down some small trails by my buddies house for a couple of minutes just to try it out. I'll be putting alot of seat time on it next weekend at Pismo. Thanks Mike!! It was well worth the wait!!
Just as a side note, the motor absolutely would not fire up with my White Bros rev box. After installing my stock box it fired up immediately. Anyone know of a box that works with built motors? one that allows the motor to start? Thanks

Put a full charge on the batt. my 440 would not fire up with a sparks box unless it had a good charge in the batt.

the dyna box works great but it is more expensive ....

sparks = White Bros = xr250

They all have the same problem

The White Bros. box is an XR250 box. It has an anti-kickback circuit that won't allow spark unless the engine is cranked above a certain rpm. With your 493 kit, the starter probably won't turn it over fast enough. The anti-kickback circuit is so you don't get bitten by the kickstarter on the XR250. Have your stock box modified if you think you need the extra R's. :cool:

I wil bet if you run the ground cable from the battery to one of the rear starter mounting bolts it will fire everytime! You lose power going though the sub frame !! Try it !

Thanks for all the information. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do. Has anyone seen or have Dyno proof that an after market box produces more power? the only info I could in writing after doing a search said there is no more power after 7,000 rpm. Thanks again. Dave

I have read the same that no more power after the 7000 rpm range. That is on a stock motor with a stock carb. The FCR produces more power alone after the 7000 mark. With your 493 motor and the fcr your running i am sure you would benifit with a box. I would not put a box on that has no limiter on it. Ride it first dave and see if you feel you even need it. You don't want to send the rod through the side case AGAIN. ;) :p

the 493 revs so fast that it will hit the stock rev limit very quickly ...

I have my dyna box set to 10500
