From what I understand, you can put 400EX a-arms on a 250X, without modifcations, and they will be a little wider. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Do the shocks mount in the same location, or is the shock mount a little farther out on the 400EX arms?

the a-arms will bolt on the 300. You can run 300 shocks but it will easily bottom out. If u run the 400 shocks u need to relocate the shock mount higher. They sell them on ebay every once in awhile.
