I have heard that once you take it apart for the first time - you have two options, check it and re-tighten it as needed or get something like the rad locknut and be done with it.

I could be wrong, but it sounds like you do not have the axle lock nut fully tightened. I can not remember the torque setting of it, but if I remember right, it is a high number that is not easily met with the common "garage" tools.

The best solution though, which is highly recommended, is to get an aftermarket axle lock nut. Not only are they inexpensive, they make it soo much easier to tighten and maintenance your axle. Those that have them are glad they do... I know I am glad I have one!!:D

Good luck in the meantime!

Ive been having quite a bit of trouble with my axle nut coming loose. The other day I put some red lock tite on the treads and tightened the locknut down with a pipe wrench and it hasnt come loose yet. When I tighten the lock nut down I usually put my 400ex in gear to keep it from rolling and when I tightened the lock nut down it turned over so im pretty sure its tight enough. I dont want it coming loose anymore.

My 2 cents on loc tight... Good stuff, until you want to take it off.

I don't know how hard it was for you to remove your axle lock nut, but if you use high strength loc tight, you may find it very difficult to remove. Yes, it may stay on, buy you may not get it off.

Sorry... Maybe I am over reacting. I just remember how tight the axle nut was to remove the first time. I can not imagine using red loc tight and later try to remove it.

Good luck.

I recently rebuilt my carrier and when I put it back together I torqued everything to spec. But mine kept coming loose as well. I put on a RAD lock nut and it hasn't come loose again. For $55 to my door it was cheap insurance.

Meszaro and alloy specialist i think it is offer the dual pinch bolt axle nut. I'm runnin a singe pinch bolt and it's coming loose just about every ride now...:ermm:

I'll be gettin the dual pinch real soon..

No problems with my single bolt "Rad Loc" to date... But then again, I am not as fast as Rico is!:D The "two bolt" lock nut looks just as cool, and seems to be the way to go.

Good luck John (QuadTrix6)!:)

i have the mesz on one quad, and the alloy on the other, both work fine, except the alloy spec. is way bigger and tougher looking, and the mesz locknut is broken now....get the alloy spec. worth the extra $$$

I had to do the same thing.... My bearings were gone in my swingarm so I am replacing them. It was a "bia" takin that nut off
My dad stood on top of the wrench he was taking the nut off with and the nut didnt budge:eek:  What are those torqued to anyways? geez Well I was looking into buying a Meszaros axle nut and then hopefully soon buying a Lonestar axle. I mean spending $40 on a axle locknut is worth a shot.

Soon to come: Kenda klaw front tires on OEM 400ex rims, 8" beadlocks on the rear with a set of grooved and ungrooved turf tamers, Web cam or HRC racing cam, port and polish work, and maybe a little Powdercoating :D

would the aftermarket work with the stock axle and an aftermarket axle?

use strong lock tite (red) on the nut and the lock nut, then torque the nuts down to their torque rating. :D

Just loc tite every bolt you take out, I just used green loc tite and no bolt has loosened... Then again I haven't tried to take one out (it was name brand loc tite) so maybe they will never come out  Meh that just means new stuff :p

Green loc-tite is used for bolts that are already tight. Get blue loc-tite for everything else. Get red for the stuff you really want to stay put ;) .

Make sure to clean the threads good with rubbing alcohol before re-applying loctite.

Tighten down your locknut firmly.

I use elect tape or racer tape over mine to add extra security for not coming loose. So far knock on wood they have not loosened up.

The ***** end of your quad looks like you have some nice parts in araes. Then you wrap electrial tape around the axle nuts. Kind a kills the effect on the looks. Sorry not flaming. A good lock nut would look a whole lot better.
