I would start with tabletops rather than doubles. That way if you make the table longer than you can hit coming out of a corner, you don't case it. Also, if you want to keep it pretty simple but not an oval, I would go with an L design.

First I agree with building tables, you can turn them into doubles or what every later, build wide jumps, give your self a good run way, bank your corners (build them up so you are leaning the right way) Here is just a little pic of a good track design, the black line is the basic idea of optium space and a well un oval shape :D

rip tear just for future referance (maybe you knew this:confused: ) but the banked corners are called "berms" and i agree build tables and some small doubles like 10ft ones to start out becuase its easy to move them. in no time you should be clearing 30ft at least

like 6-8 feet so you can fit more than one quad

wow thats 25 feet looks more like 15 but what ever. try and make it so two quads can fit easily on the take of and landing. if you make doubles make the jump so it doesnt just come to a point or your lip will just keep falling apart.

how do i make the lips on my jumps mine keep crumbling espacily on dirt bikes

well thats what mine do except for two of my jumps are allways fine and never get worn down i dont know why. just try and make it so there is more dirt past the lip and then have the jump slope down then the lip wont just crumble away. do you know what i mean.

With the lips make the top of the lip a bit higher then the jump, so when the lip is actualy finished there should be a bit more dirt behind it and a little further back, it will help the lip from crumbling :D

Good luck

P.S. I did know they are called berms, but they are only berms after they are banked ;) :D

first, look at the field for a while and think of some ideas of the layout. where corners should go, a long straight, section for whoops, then ride where you want it. get a grove and tear up the ground to dirt so you can get a good surface to ride on. then when it's ready, get a shovel and get to work making jumps. i'd get the dirt from before the jump or make a place to get dirt from and haul it over in wheel barrows. it'd take a long time if you want to do it right.

Doubles take much less dirt than tables.....

you could just get all your dirt from the middle of your track. i dont know what kind of track design your doing but if you have a middle take the dirt from there. that way there arnt holes really close to your jumps.

you could also just use filler like hay, or barrels so you dont have to move so much dirt.

here is another angle...

it is 25 feet, i used a tape measure... i guess the picture is deciving...

Pics are real deseving... About using filler, I was going to do that but I figured I would rather just use dirt because then when you go to change it up you don't have crap to pull out of it. But if you don't have dirt might as well use filler (I had rail road ties to use as filler...). I found enough dirt so I didnt use filler.

well heres my track that i have at my house. its just 3 doubles. one is like 10-15 feet the second one is 15-20 feet and the third is 50 feet. heres the first its hard to see cause there is so many bushes on it.

i dont know it was weird the sky turned yellow as i was taking this pics. heres an old one of me jumping the big one. all these jumps are all dirt but i did have a tractor to build them. the big one started as a table and then we took out the middle and moved it back so now its a double. as you can see the jump throws you up there and im already coming down in this pic but if you start with tables its easy to keep moving the landing back cause you have all the dirt in the middle to use. and if you are positive on you jump setup then you should use some kind of filler i didnt becasue i had an endless supply of dirt and a tractor. but as soon as you make them plant grass and anything you can fine on them and it will help hold everything in place. as you can see my jumps are covered in bushes and grass and stuff like that i hope i helped out. and i have more pics if you want them. just ask.

I totaly agree with quader400 on this one, make sure your jumps are "growing" I used a lot of top grass and stuff, you know just the grass and other growth ontop of the soil, it really holds the jumps together. and if you don't have enough dirt just use filler, no point in making the jumps too small etc. Good luck!

man quader I wish I had jumps like that for freestyle. Most of the jumps I get to ride on which i'm happy for just don't seem to be the best for freestyle. Everyone once in a while i'll go to a nice riding area with awsome freestyle jumps but its a couple hours away and i've only been to it once this year. But when I was busting out.

get some carpet wet it down and put it on the lips and landings, really pack it in there and it should help keep the jump together

hight 3rd. or 4th if you want. i have to move the whole thing back because the golf course recked my hight bank turn that gave me enough speed to hit it. now i only have 10 feet and so i need to move everything back. its going to suck. cause my dad sold our tractor so its a ton of work but what ever.

Man making a nice jump takes hard enough with a bulky front end loader equipped tractor, that would suck moving doubles by hand. (luckily i'm getting a bobcat soon... waiting on my track till then.)

my family owns an excavatiopn business and the pit we own is like a budge mountain of dirt. there are different layers so i made some pretty sweet step ups and then a hudge (atleast 50 ft.) table top. start off comfortably

Rip_Tear, that is like the layout mine will be. I did have a nice 5 acre track (sand), put my folks built a house in the middle, and a lane/driveway in the front, so I have to make the most out of the backyard. Here are a couple panorama I put together, the first of how it is, and the second of where the track will go. It is a slight uphill, and where the green line are close together, they aren't really, the land is flat there.
