Look up poisonous spiders on the internet and you'll find black widow and brown recluse before any other spider in the world..

They are bad news especially untreated... We have the bastads here around my area...:grr:

that is a worst case scenario for a recluse bite...but yes it can happen.

the bite seems to have gotten infected, then gang green set in. usually if treated early the most you will get is that ugly blister, swelling and redness....it also itches like h377.

prolly ended up cutting that thumb off....poor dude should went to the doc after day 3.

The brown recluse is the more venomous brother to the black widow. They are nasty little summmabiches. They live in much more mild climates than there black buddies. They are not to be messed with.

Unfortunetly Rico is right... We have both here in KY. Brown recluses rule the house, Black widows outside.
If you have either around your house all the time call in Terminex, Orkin or someone to do a thourough cleaning and spraying off the area around and under your house. We had a few browns under our house and a widow on the carport at one point. :confused2

BTW, I believe those last two shots have been a little...enhanced. :p

HAHAHAHA! I am getting over my brown recluse bite right now....llil biyatch chomped it's way down my thigh while I was sleeping......you could see it's little fang marks....

I have been bit before, when I was about 12 years old....started getting all nasty before I told my mom about it...had to take antibiotics for a month....but I think your tolerance is different depending on who you are....

These bites I have now didn't do much - itched like crazy when I woke up - I scratched the crap out of them all day....next day there was a HUGE bruise on my thigh....looked like I crashed my quad and took a footpeg in the leg or something....couldn't figure out what the h*ll happened.....

Then I remembered - typical Brown Recluse stuff......so....I took some antibiotics and now it's almost gone. (two weeks)

Don't underestimate those little *******s......every bite is different - it can get you quick or not bother you too much....we have them all over the place here in AZ. Funny thing is...I hate Black Widows more....and they aren't as bad. Just FUGLY.......ewww....:macho

I was told by an exterminator that they don't kill the spiders because they can hold their breathe for several hours. They kill their food source and the spiders will leave.

I have done quite a bit of reading on the brown recluse spider. No, the pics are not fake. Its called the brown recluse because they are seldom seen. They are also called the "fiddle back spider". Look at the pic on page one. You can see what looks like a tiny violin on its back, right behind its head. They like to hide in places that are dark and quiet. Their bite is almost painless, so you can be bit several times and not know it. Most of the time they will not bite unless they are pushed against your skin by clothes or shoes. Some people are not really affected by the poison, it just swells up, but in some people, it kills the surrounding flesh. It can heal in a few weeks, and then flair up again weeks later! The cure is mostly time, and antibiotics to stop infection. Also the dead flesh must be removed to prevent infection. Its pretty rare people have a severe reaction to the spiders poison, so dont worry too much. Use comman sense approaches, If your shoes and clothes have been sitting in the closet a long time, shake them out before you put them on. Thats the lesson for the day. :)

That bite was not treated at all. Looks like it was staged to show what can happen if you are bit by a Brown Recluse. The venom actually "rots" the tissue away. See the upside violin shape on the thorax of the spider, that's a quick way to know if it a recluse. There are many spiders that look similar.

Personally any animal with more than 2 legs or less than 2 legs is considered a threat. The reason the wound was opened up is to debride the wound and remove the dead tissue and hopefully part of the venom with it. the dead tissue is a perfect medium for bacteria to grow (warm, wet, and plenty to eat).

I actually saw these pics on ogrish before...yea those are some nasty spiders... we have them around here, but not as big as the 1 on page 1. I don't think I have ever seen one that big, or either I am thinking about another spider that I see that looks like a recluse...My friend's dad got bit by one of those on the bottom of his foot and it started busting his blood vessels and chit. Maybe there is a vaccine for spider bites.

I've also heard that the daddy long leg is the most venemous spider, but has no way to inject us with the venom.... or somethin like that. Anyone hear that before?

i kill those things all the time. i counted them once and i think i killed 38 in one night. i have a 40x48 shop and i wasn't in there for a while. when i flip on the lights i see them all scatter. i just walk around with a hammer or something and start smashing. i heard they're really hard to kill because they walk on their "toes" and the poison doesn't get on them and they hide under things so the fog doesn't work either. i drenched one in wasp killer and it was still moving after 20 minutes. a direct shot of carb cleaner or brake cleaner doesn't even kill them very fast.

ya, daddy long legs are the most venomous spiders known. The venom is like 5 times worse than the widows(which is quite lethal if not treated) but the fangs are too short to inject the venom. also, did u know that there IS a snake that has legs. There is a species of boa constrictors that still has 2 small appendages on its sides. The theory behind that was that snakes evolved and this particular species still hasnt lost its legs completely

I don't think daddy long legs are "technically" spiders, since they only have one body part.

Almost everywhere has some sort of venomous spider, recluse, yellow sac, hobo, widow... we have hobos here. In fact I just killed one on the desk. the craziest part is they're communal. :eek2:

my dog was bitten once, all the hair in an area the size of a salad plate fell out, and there were two tiny little marks in the center.

I bet if we get a bathroom scale and weigh the spider then we will be able to tell. Any theories or proof to back this up Quadtrix?
