Just saw some info and pics on the 400ex frame with a 250r motor in it by Service Honda.

Looks pretty cool. Was just wandering if anyone knows how well they run and what the price is? No price on the website. Looks pricey to me.

Any thoughts welcome..

Hey, I was just gonna post the same thing! Was looking for the '04 400EX parts list... not on there yet, but I saw that 250R too... I bet it's pretty trick... but probably overpriced. :(

I am waiting for him to build one with the xr650 motor. Water cooled 650 motor. That would be sweet.

I would be just interested in the power output of that 250r motor. I never rode a 2 stroke but always heard good things about the power. On a side note my cousin had both an '85 ATC 250R and an'89 TRX250R and said they were the best things he had ever owned...until he sold them!!!

according to dirtwheels its a modded CR250 motor and price will be around 8G like stated above...Im gonna be the odd man out and say I dont like it, Im not sure why but id much rather have an original 250R and service honda is all over the CR500 stuff so why didnt they out do themselves and put a CR500 motor in a 400s frame, I mean all u need to do is design a counter balancer of some sort and u have a machine that will out run and out handle just about anything.

That would be cool, but a counterbalancer needs to be designed into a motor from the drawing board, it's not something you can just throw on. Luckily Honda integrated one into the CRF450.

Wow, I just saw the price. Out of my league. But I did email service honda and inquire about the power of the 250 motor and the handling capabilites as compared to piped and jetted Banshees, Raptors, and Predators..

Heres the reply....

"Thanks for interest in the Service Honda TRX250R. The quads you mention are not competetive with our new quad in a drag race and are not even close handling wise due to our massive weight advantage. Deposit on our quad is $1000. Shipping is not yet set but will be about $400-$450."

Just for anyone's information...

What suspension do they use on these things?

Creech52

the suspension is stock 400EX but they have options to get it with aftermarket shocks lonestar a arms and a lone star swing arm, which are all over priced. and I was told by someone that sed they desinged a counter balancer for a CR500 they just didnt have a CNC machine to make it, it was on the ATV connection chat but I dunno. Im sure theres a way, like they say were theres a will theres a way and if u wanted to mount one in a quad bad enough then you could figure something out. Ive seen tons of trikes with the CR 500 motor, why dont they have to worry about vibrations. anyway getting way off topic here.

:o i would rather buy a brand new 04 ex for 5k or cheaper....then put that 4,275$ into the quad, and make it kill the new 250r:o

Jeez, almost $10K for a quad with STOCK shocks! They could at least throw some Works on there or something for that price. Sounds like you're paying for both the stock 400ex motor AND the CR250 motor, except they keep the 400EX motor and sell it to someone else. :confused2 I'll bet for $10K anyone on this board could build a quad that would stomp all over that thing. Oh well, I guess someone with more money than brains might buy one...

Trikes supposedly handle the vibrations better because of the front forks and triple trees.
