I would say get a 300ex because you'll regret getting a 250ex or z.

for real just get the 300 unless you never plan on using a clutch quad because the 300 isnt that much bigger then the 250, just more power and more fun to most ppl

250ex, i saw a z250 at the dealer and the welds on the frames were horrible. looked like a weak design...

Well my bro got a ozark 250( same as the z250). It is a preaty good quad. He beats it and it still runs great. Never needed anything except gas, oil, oil filter, and it runs awsome. For speed or acc. i wood get the z250. Suspension i would go with the Ex, and looks i would say same, Dependable would go to the honda, and hey dude these quads are about the same so get what you like!;)

I have a Z400, not a Z250 but I do have a 250EX and it is tough as steel. Get the EX.

Not sure how sinilar they are but I hear the Z400's are having major probs with the frames. Go with the 300ex it's practically bulletproof!:)

I was in the same deal of money. I would have liked a 300EX but there weren't any new ones around and one I was looking at was bought and I was like, "that sucks." I went back 2 days later and the same one was there and was pretty much detonated. There obviously was not well taken care of 300EX's around here that were very cheap.

I got my brand new 250EX and absolutely love it. It is balanced very nicely and wheelies at a wick of the throttle in first. I can even get 3rd gear wheelies pretty easy. I don't even have any mods. I did take the baffle out of the pipe but that was more because it sounds better and the pipe stays cooler.

The Z-250 is 4mph faster than the EX (as reviewed by Dirt Wheels) but the 250EX is plenty fast enough unless you have nothing but miles of wide open spaces. The weight distrubution on the Z doesn't let it wheelie near as easy as the EX. Even when I go to places with a lot of high performance sport quads, I still get complements on my 250EX and its wheelying capability.

I think it is the perfect machine to grow with to get you used to sport quads. I have already learned a lot from this thing and I may upgrade to a bigger quad for racing next summer but for all but head to head competition 24/7, the 250EX is an awesome choice. I've rode Mojaves which are quite a bit faster than the 250EX and have not had near as much fun. It's just the lightweight characteristics of this thing that make it some much fun.

If you can find a well taken care of 300EX or now, even 400EX cheaper than or even a bit more than a 250EX, I would say go for that instead. You'll be that much farther ahead when you decide its time to go racing or whatever.

That's the first good review I've heard for the 250 ;) I rented them at Pismo last summer and they were awesome. Then again, that was my first time really riding a sport quad. Thanks for the review bro.

Anytime. I love mine but I am a trail and woods rider. I don't know how it would do in the dunes.

Glad you liked the review.

get a mojave its the fastest ne way haha it would roast a 250ex and 300ex, so im sure the z250 is not a problem, and mojaves have been around long enough that their motors will out live the rider

I hate to say it, but I like my mom's Z-250 better than the 250ex. My mom traded in her 250ex for the Z-250 recently for a few reasons. The 250ex did not absorb the bumps as well, the 250ex seat was hard and uncomfortable, the 250ex was tippy, rear shock sucked and so on....... The Z-250 even seems peppier for some reason. Yes, this is the first year for production, but it's my mom. She does not abuse her quads, so I do not think she will have a problem with things breaking. She just enjoys her trail rides.

If you have a chance and money, start with the 300ex. They are great beginner (even though I think you may be a good rider already) quads. That's what I started with and soon after moved up to my 400ex. :p

Every mojave i've raced i've beat them by one or two qaud lenghs except once when i raced ym best friends in wet grass that was about 2 foot tall and was wet. My tires just spun thorgh every gear. but when we got on pavement i dusted him.

but anyways i would just go on ahead and get a 300Ex you can get them pretty cheap, and it something u can grow into.

A Z-250 would be faster but I don't know about handeling. I probably woulda got a Z-250 but they came out with it 2 late. I love my EX anyways! If the Z is 4 mph faster than the EX it would be about the same speed as the 300EX.

And guys, he asked to compare the Z-250 and 250EX, not the 300EX or Mohave.

250ex over the z250 because of how great the wheelie. I would think they would jump better too. If you can get a 300ex then go for that but stay away from the Mojave because of weight. Good luck

Go for the 300ex. The 250 can only do so much. Who cares if the 300 is a little more...save up for it. It will be worth it in the long run plus there are more mods for the 300. The 250 is a shaft drive little sumbich that has very limited upgrade potential and there is nothing that is really going to make it any faster than it is.

You all talk about the 250EX's ability to lift the front end so well but you forget to mention the downside to that, the front end pushes, and pushes a lot. I love riding my brother's 250EX a lot, but I think Suzuki has done their homework (again) and it's probably the better buy.

Fast250EX
06-26-2003, 03:40 PM
I don't think the front end pushes very much. Sure I can tell that it does and it is noticeable if you have a bit of experience on your belt but saying it is a lot is sort of exaggerating. A lot would mean it was so bad it couldn't get around a track without running off all over the place. The 300EX and 250EX are very different in how they need to be ridden. Once you learn how to ride and take advantage of the pluses of the 250EX, you get better at manuevering it around and don't notice the push near as much.

Also, it isn't the light front end that makes it push, it is the front shock setup. They aren't quite as plush and don't allow the 250EX to dig into the corners as well as the 300EX. As a matter of fact, the front end on the 300EX is noticeably lighter but it is the shock setup that still allows it to have that planted front end feel.

I would get a 300EX before I got a Z. I refuse to buy a Suzuki ATV and will never own a Suzuki ATV. I have heard of nothing but frame and swingarm problems. Even my friends LT230 couldn't jump to high (over 4 1/2 feet) without the swingarm getting a crack. I agree it is a fine machine and is fast as a mofo but it just can't hold together as well as a Honda. If an ATV can't hold up to a reasonable amount of abuse without breaking, I consider it a POS.

I would buy a Suzuki motorcycle though, maybe.

I was considering buying one of these two machines for my mom in the next year or two. Only fair since I bought my dad his quad. She rides a 200sx right now, and I want something for her that handles better with a bit more power too. She just can't seem to get the hang of a manual clutch, so its either auto, or auto clutch machines to choose from. I was thinking 250ex, or wolverine:confused:

i dont think anyone can say until they have rode both, excpet for which one they think looks better:D i like my 250ex, ,but the 250z is lighter and has more shock travel........

06-27-2003, 05:32 AM
the z 250 i think has a faster motor, id say its probaly a better performing machine but i doubt its as durable the 250ex

I have rode both and I love them both. I've seen 300EX's at National Race's plenty of times so I wouldn't count that out at all. It's probably the best overall bike for price, suspension and just the whole package. Has TONS of upgrade potentional. You can go mild and get a nice pipe or go crazy and get a 330 kit. I think I want a 300EX now!
