go down in the rear. I'm not sure how many teeth the 400ex rear sprocket has but i would say go down 2 or 3 teeth. This is equal to 1 higher on the front sprocket.

I heard that the TC Rev Limiter is different from the White Bros some how. It still lets it start as good as Stock. I saw it on this Site, but I`m not sure what thread it was. I guess you could call TC and ask.

The top of the hp/rpm curve flattens out. I think you may have to adjust your throttle cable. If your quad is set up properly you really shouldn't have to "red-line" it.

You can have your stock box modified for $85 and you won't have any problem with starting.

Well i would suggest you sell the 400ex and buy a two stroke. I find it hard to beleive a 400ex with only a 406 piston would be very gearbound with a 16 tooth sprocket and stock rears.

Tommy, you sure it's the rev limiter and not a jetting issue on the high side? Many guys on this board run 416's and 426's and not many of them have talked about bouncing off the limiter with a 16 tooth.

I'm using the White Bros. box with a 45 pilot and I have no problems starting mine.

It isn't hard starting for you because you live in arizona. Most of the people that have trouble starting their atv with it, live in places where the temperature gets below 50.

I find it very unlikely you are hitting the redline, by that time your HP has dropped drastically so I don't even know how that can be possible. You don't even hear guys on here running a 14 tooth complaing of this, and that will rev the engine out much quicker than 16 tooth.

i am positive its the rev limiter... i think one of my problems could mayb be my tires are to bald and i am spinning so bad that they aren't hookin up... could this have anything to do with it... i will go check the plug here soon and see if its a jet problem but i don't think so... and i don't wanna sell my 4 for a 2 stroke i rode 2 strokes for years and i don't like them as much as my 4stroke...

I didn't have any problems starting it at the dunes in the morning either. According to the thermometer outside my trailer it was 36 degrees outside and it started fine. As for hitting the rev limiter, I used to hit mine quite often in the lower gears until I put on the rev box.
I bought a rev box from magnum it gives you an extra 1000 rpm. but i cant imagine needing it i never hit mine even before i changed it. is you 400ex stock? I jetted mine too. I dont remember what size jet i went to. I used the one the instructions suggested to use with your airbox lid on. And as far a starting problems I dont have any I have started mine at temps in the 20's with out the choke. dont get me wrong it doesn't idel for a little while and it will stall a couple times but it starts every time.
but your not the first person i herd mention starting troubles. keep us posted and let us know what the problem was.

Oddly enough, since switching to the 16T front sprocket, I've been bouncing off the rev limit quite often (in the first two gears) - never had any trouble when I was running the 15T. Apparently it has something to do with where I feel I should be shifting with this setup.
It's really not causing me much of a problem, it will just take a little getting used to short shifting a bit...

i checked my plug its jetted fine.... i put on my friends brand new tires from his 02 and it fixed the problem some... guess i gotta start short shifting 2...
