Hi gang,

Well, I went out today with Dune Surfer and started the break in on the 416. As I posted a few days ago, it wound not idle. Well, I got it idleing, but it real strange now....

The idle will race real quick and then slow way down sounding like a sputtering Harley...all without me touching anything. Kinda weird.

Just wondering if any of you know what could cause that...like a dirty idle screw/housing perhaps?

I also sill have a slight blubber at just off idle to 1/8th to 1/4 throttle.

Heres where I'm at now:

#40 pilot
2 turns out on air screw
needle at 3rd clip.
170 main jet

Thanks for all the help fellas..

the idleing is fine mine idles like that, sounds exactly like a sputtering harley it's because of the longer duration and higher lift of the cam

i'm not sure what you mean by a blubber :huh

check that the airboot is sealed....

I think airscrew is 2.5 out stock and with your setup i'd go about 3 out or a little more..

I agree with Pappy. A fluctuating idle is not normal. Sounds like an air leak, check the intake boot at the clamp and where the boot attaches to the head. There's an o-ring pressed into a groove where the boot and head meet, was that intact?

3 or more? That would justify dropping a size on the pilot..

I will check the o-ring on the intake boot as well as all the o-rings on the carb itself.

A "blubber" off idle is a hesitation, that's what I call it. When I get to about 1/3rd throttle...it takes off.

I may drop the clip 1 on the needle...
