I wonder how well that type of motor would work, if its true. It better work good, cause I want the new Honda quad when it comes out.

well when dirtwheels had those drawn pics of the predator and the z-400 everone thought it was just a rumer, was it... NO it was real.

this will be the new thing unless something goes terribly wrong with it.

and this also explains the rushing of the new yamaha, honda didnt want to loose too much buisness so they are letting out some signs of hope

 Besides a very reliable birdie told me so:cool:
Cough Cough 2 versions, 2 prices cough cough

Well, im gonna say something Ive never said before and though I would never say...Im gonna hand it to dirtwheels on their before-hnad info on new quads.

They did get the part right about Kawi doing test on a V-Twin sports bike...so happens the KFX700 comes out a couple months later.
Same with the Pred/Z400 drawings...those came true.

Who knows...it may be true, but I would not hold your breath just incase. It is kinda odd though how this info is released just after then release of the YFZ...makes it look believable. :ermm:

Only time will tell though, and all of us know that. :)

cause yamaha found out about it and freaked and then rushed to have their own out before honda

06-23-2003, 04:03 AM
I wanna get that new Honda maybe.

ok with 4 or 5 intake valves and 2 sparkplugs. how many carbs would it need?

what happens when the motor blows? Im sure boring it will be an easy task. The pistons should be pretty cheap too. :huh

ed: oops i was thinking it was an elliptical piston. I guess oval would'nt be that hard. :ermm:

If thats the case, this was on the next page. Tell me this quad wouldn't eat a 300ex or blaster for lunch since the bike is probably aimed at the 125 class in motocross.

The KX250F probably wont go in a quad. And it is a 125 class bike, and the engine is actually based off the Suzuki GSXR-1000 street bike, just a 1 cylinder design.

UHUH.....and so it begins! The little tidbits of info from Honda that are gonna trickle out until the announcement is made.....hopefully we get some sketches of their new machine soon......just a matter of time, people!:D

Some of you older fella's may remember way back in the early 90's CycleWorld did a feature article on the oval piston Honda.
It was a V-four (or should I say V-eight) prototype. It had a bunch of sparkplugs and even more valves.
If I remember correctly performance numbers wasn't much higher than the current (at that time) 1000cc in-line four's. I beleive it even had EFI. I cannot for the life of me remember the displacement. It was very interesting to say the least. No more was ever mentioned in CW mag.
This is the first time hearing about it since.

I have been told there will be 2 models to choose from.A 439 cc forward kick with no reverse.400ex geometry only a little longer,I have not heard any confirmation on the aluminum frame and yes I have asked.Piggy back shocks as well. This version will be released this fall primarily as a motocross set up with an electric start woods racer to follow next spring.Farr and Spader I think have been the ones testing, rumor had it that Farr broke his collar bone in a crash while testing.I have been given this info from several sources and each story matches,I hope it's true!!!

This dirtbike isn't a rumor, and hasn't been for a while. I saw this while watching a mx race on t.v. I also read an article on it on the net about 4 or 5 months ago. They are also going to make a 450 4-stroke version of this dirtbike.

I was refering to the performance quad with that motor:)

Yeah...I realize that's why you made the post. I just wanted to let everyone know that the dirbike itself is the real deal and about the 450 version.

I think if when the 450 version is completed, it would make for a nice race-quad engine. But, then again, I own a z400 and I hate suzuki and have vowed never to buy from them again. Of course, if it's a Kawi, I might consider it...lol.

Do you think honda would spend money to design a motor for an ATV? Its gotta be the 450 or 650 liquid or 650 air cooled. oval piston? Its gotta be a joke. They just made that up becuase Honda isn't giving them ANYTHING. We will know when they know.

Anybody see the article in Dirt Wheels(if i remember correctly)about the Yamaha 600 Banshee a while back? Then at the bottom in real fine print it said that the editors were bored and didn't have any new news so they just made the story up? It's probably the same deal going on here.

Why would they go through the trouble and expense when they have the perfect motor in the 450F? And the 450 outpowers the 650 and is also lighter. The CR450F makes like 55 Horsepower so I for one hope thats the motor they do use.

honda made a big money factory ? street race bike in the earley 1990s with that piston set up in it and I belive that is where the drive train parts pics are from , anybody else remenber the bike I will research and get more info. sorry I forget the model any body ?enough B.S. from dirt wheels and honda where is the new fourtrax,? Honda has dropped the ball, I personally have given up on them and have started building my own new 1989 250r based quad from the ground up.:D
