I am working on a 416 kit and its almost done. I got it all tore down in my garage. I got a JE 10.8:1 piston, XR style head gasket to get me to 11:1, hotcams stage 2 and i'm doin a little cleanin up while i'm in there. I cant wait to get it back together! I am currently waiting for the ups truck to arrive to get my parts. I hope i get it back together on saturday and start the very painful break iin process. I'll keep you guys posted on how it turns out.

Do the main break in on jacks its easier to control yourself that way. After about 10-15 minutes on the jacks running it between 2-3k RPMs Change your oil and then for the first 10 minutes or so with the quad on a load (IE. On the ground) take it easy. After that it should be good to go.

Steve,

also want to posint out that your bike will be quicker since you run 20's out back along with those light 22 stock fronts

I prob have another 30 lbs at least of unsprung weight, plus a taller rear taller with slows me down alot.

I wouldn't doubt if you take me in a drag.

BUT NOT ON THE TRAILS!:eek2:

I would listen to whatever YZ tells you guys. He is full of a lot of great and helpful information, un like some who like to think they know what they are talking about.

I got mine opened up to about 3/4 throttle and it revs a little quicker because of the lighter tires. The only thing is it was hard getting traction on the stone road.

I highly recommend this kit to anyone, its well worth the $$.

The break in is goin great. No problems so far. I gotta get air scoops though, it runs a little hotter than I'd like it to. I have about 7 hours on it now and its runnin strong!:macho

How long will it take you to fully break it in?

after i built my 416 even with the scoops it was running hot but once i went to race fuel did it come down to a comfortable temperature but i also have an advance key which i'm told make it run hotter

I can do it.

I want to get the oil filter situation figured out first?

I have never seen a filter like that before????:huh

Steve-0-400ex

The motor is pretty much broken in after about 5-10 hours.

I had mine fully broken in after 5 hours. I just didnt REALLY beat it till I had 20 or so hours on it.

Mine runs the same I think. I was running a mix of VP race so I am not sure.

It does get hot but it runs good.

My buddies does get hotter without the air scoops though.

Heat cycles are more important than hours!

How do you know when its fully broken in?

There is know green light that comes on when its broken in. You just have to ride it slow and go thru the heat cycles and a couple tanks of gas. Then let it rip.

YZROOSTINYA Steve-o 400EX, We all have to ride together because now we all got the same quad. Only i need to get some new tires and stuff then ill race you guys. I have a pretty sick quad for a 14 year old dont ya think.

did you put heavier valave springs on.

YZROOSTINYA
07-15-2003, 11:15 PM
you dont need the springs unless you get a rev box.

I would love to ride but my quad is out of commision for 3-4 months. IT NEEDS MAJOR WORK after Hatfield-McCoy

I need:

A-arms
tie rod ends
carrier
axle
brake hub
rear disc
sprocket hub
chain and sprockets
Front wheel bearings

My MOTOR is tight though:confused2

This is what I am currently working on. Can't wait till I get some track days in!

its a FZR 600 Yamaha. 96'

Nothing special but pretty well balanced.

I used to have R6 2001.
I want to start draggin knee though and this is a good start.

I pretty much just stunted before

I remember seeing a picture in the back of your car of this sick burnout. Was that you or one of your buddies? Soon as iam 16 i think ill get an r6 as my first bike then move up to an r1 a little later.

YZROOSTINYA
07-16-2003, 03:28 AM
that was me on my R6
i may have adiff pic of it.

600's are not little bikes. i suggest you start off on something older and work your way up.

I have more fun on the fizzer than I did on the R6.

I cant ride 120mph wheelies anymore but thats not the smartest thing to do anyhow.

I want to learn how to turn, not looking for a drag bike.

8qty 5-8 hour days will do that to a quad I am riding:eek2:

The bearing carrier blew apart on me after I landed on my left wheel on a 5ft drop off. I rode it that way for like 2 hours and did not know till the next day. My sprocket/brake hubs got all chewed up along with the axle and carrier is cracked.

The a-arms are pretty bad, alotta play at the pivots.

I almost went off a few cliffs but luckily I didnt

Ide stick with the hazelton riding cause theres alot of tough riding up there and it really doesnot beet on your quad alot. I know h/m is an awesome placed but i proboly could never make it alive outa that place.

at high rpms valves will tend to float and when valves float bad things will happen:devil:

this is why fore the heavy valve springs with a rev box

If i put my stock rev kit in i wont need heavier valve spring? is that correct?

YZROOSTINYA
07-17-2003, 11:13 PM
first off you dont need a rev box.

your motor doesnt make power that high up.

second with a aftermarket cam and a rev box, you should be running springs.

The cam will allow your motor to rev higher and valve float is possible.

throw on your stock box and keep your stock springs

I run my stock box and springs
