Start with a pipe. Then get a 440, 416 or which ever one he wants. Get a high rev cam w/ rockers and springs. Get a FCR carb. Porting. Then he could get larger valves. This will cost him some money for sure.

But your better to do chassis parts first. You can only go as fast as your chassis will let you

catfishs post shows that he only ever came here to flame because if he didn't he would of not have asked this question.

>After market airfilter

>Slip-on pipe

>Air box mods

>Proper jetting

>14 tooth front sprocket

These are probably the least expensive things to do for modest power gains or at least a starting point.

Kabd69667 is right. You can do anything to that Motor, but it won`t matter if he doesn`t have a good Suspension. If he wants Motor Mods real bad, look at the JE 416 Piston Kit and XR400 Cam from Marcum`s. Rico loves his 416 to death.

how bout a 416 piston, xr cam, and a 12 tooth sprocket. He only needs more power through third gear.(he has a wb r4pipe, k&n, and jetting) what would a higher rev limiter do? how much would it be for the 416 piston installed? i heard $500.

if you put a 12 tooth sprocket on, it will be geared so low 1-4th gear will be useless. Don't go lower than a 14 tooth.

The Setup you just said is Perfect. Have him do that. He doesn`t need a 12 tooth sprocket. Once he has the 416 Piston and Cam the stock gearing will be fine. Don`t get a Rev Limiter. It makes the 400 really hard to start. Duncan says they don`t do anything. I think Rico said his total with all the Parts and Labor was around $450.
