16 arial red Hey if anyone could help me but I was ridin at one of our quad tracks here in IL. When i was pulling in to take a break my 400 just completely shut off. The starter would just turn and turn but nothing would come out of the exhaust pipe. What happened and what should I do about it? if you could please help me it would be very good! :ermm: If you could tell me some of the things i could check and stuff. I took it to a mechanic and they said that the compression might've been lost. but if you know what i could do would ya please tell me? thanks

Um, get a compression gauge and check the compression? Seems you answered your own question. :)

It's hard to guess with the information you give, though... could be ignition related (check for spark)...

sounds like you dropped a valve or somethin...take the plug out put your thumb over it...hit the start button and see if you can feel any air movement

yup, i would say you broke the timing chain, sounds like your valves may be hung open enough that you no longer have any compression

that would be my guess

either that or your starter is not engaging on the crank but it would make a whirl sound and the starter would spin faster

if he snapped a rod he would be hearing a nasty crunching sound coming form the inside of the motor when hs tries to start it might even have a nice view window in the top of the motor too:confused2

your piston could have a hole in it at least thats what happened to mine when that happened

my money is on the timing chain, but i blew a head gasket like 2 weeks ago and it was blown so bad that i couldnt get any compression to even start it..i think you woulda noticed that tho
