I've got my wife beat into submission with the quads (she's seen 4 in 2 years) and she's just resigned herself to the fact that I'll always be buying and selling them. I am figuring trailer the bike and the quad to 4punks house and then ride to meet Ben. Then the next day ride quads at the 4punks ranch. Sound like a plan just name a date. I might even drag Lenny with me. Just name the weekend my schedule is wide open.

4punks - yep, Coonskin is a pretty good place to take the bike on a Sunday (and sometimes Saturday) afternoon if you like hotties! The old lady, however, tends to veto my plans on that front or she makes me put the hump on the back of the bike (so a passenger can't ride) :o And about the sun - I haven't seen it in a week with all this darn rain, I feel like it is the end of days!
Derno - Sounds like a plan on the ride :D
MXcutie - I'm sure you can find someone to give you a ride on a motorcycle, but be careful who you choose and some guys are very reckless even with passengers on board. If you lived around here I'd give you a ride :)
K_Fulk - Sweet ride! I sat on the new Honda CBR 600RR the other day when Guy400 was in town (we had to go to the honda dealership for oil) and the seat was as hard as a rock! It was a very trick looking bike, however. Is your bike's seat a little more comfy?
Guy - Nice mower but I think I'd rather use an old riding mower than a new push mower! I'm glad your wife is resigned to your ATV swapping, mine is almost there (I think I've got her convinced that a utility quad would make a nice addition to the garage  ) Oh, and I fired the project quad up last night - loudddddd but it runs smooth :muscle:

My Hayabusa cruises at 5,000rpm at 100mph (redline is 12,000rpm I believe). It feels like you aren't going fast at all. I can hit 85mph in first gear though :p I don't subscribe to the theory that something is too fast or too dangerous (for the most part). As long as you have self control I believe one is fine to be on a fast motorcycle, in a fast car, have a couple beers (not while driving a car or motorcycle!!), etc. Any modern sportbike is too fast for public roads ;) A good thing about the smaller CC sportbikes is that they don't have the brute force of the bigger bikes, but I can put around on the Hayabusa all day long without any trouble (in fact it is easier to ride in slow traffic and in hilly areas than my old GSXR600). That being said, however, I do feel that motorcycles are very dangerous and would not want my finance to own/drive one, nor my children. ;)

ben i know exactly what u mean...
me and a few friends were thinkin about the katana 600... they said thats a pretty good learner bike for 17 and 18 year old kids... but a few of us want to just get cbrs or yzfs and just take it easy on them for awhile...
is the katana still a good bike??? have u ever rode one???
and there is nothing like the sound of a cbr600f4i up at redline (14,000 i think it was) with a yoshi pipe... that was the great sound i've ever heard...
I'm not aloud to have a street bike..:(
Katanas are fine bikes and can be found cheap. For a good beginner bike that is cheap I would recommend a Yamaha FZR600 (you can even buy fairings that make it look basically like an R6!), 96-99 Yamaha YZF600 (not R6), 97-99 Suzuki GSXR 600. You can find them cheap and they are good quality bikes. Remember though, alot of sportbikes (like sport quads) have been abused and wrecked. I'd have a bike shop check it out prior to purchase. If you are talking about buying a new Katana I would say look for a slightly used but basically new late model F4, F3, GSXR600, ZX6 or ZX6r or R6.
4punksdad
06-18-2003, 06:21 AM
ben makes some good points.............I agree, the YZF600 is alot of bang for the buck. As a beginner, I recommend a good dual sport machine like a KLR or an XL. Thats gets you familiar with the road on a bike that you are already familiar with. A dirt bike. Plus the insurance is dirt cheap on a dual sport.

4-punks where do you get the orange z-1000 is ugly i looked at one at the dealer, i'm a naked bike rider too "95-cb1000", i love that bike, only thing i would change would be the pipes "4-1" too make some noise

Road bikes are fun. I learned a lot of respect for rider's in general ( ATV's and Bikes ) by riding off road. I had my drivers liscence a year and built up my confidence and familiality of road rules, so I was good with that.
My dad rides a Honda Goldwing 1500 and my mom rides a Valkrie 1500. I road the Valk after I took my MSF course and man, that thing has so much power ( not as QUICK as a sportster but it does have balls ).
My options for my first bike stands at this.. Discounted 600 RR from the Honda shop ( I work at it right now ) Or I wait until I get out of college, which I am taking classes to learn DUCATI, and if that turns out okay, then I would get a Ducati 998.
I think the Honda would be a better bike to start out on though, considering how much the DUC's cost right ;)

Knocked out cold and the ambulance had to come after i dragged him and my quad of the nieghbors front yard. he blew a .34!!! HAHA my wife was his trauma nurse also to take care of his dumb a$s.
