I AM POSTING THIS QUESTION FOR A FRIEND. HE WENT TO CLEAN HIS AIR FILTER YESTERDAY AND FOUND IT TO BE COVERED IN GASOLINE. THERE WAS BARELY ANY IN THE AIR BOX, BUT THE FILTER WAS SOAKED WITH IT. ANY IDEA WHAT COULD CAUSE THIS? THANKS IN ADVANCE.

OH YEAH, IT IS A 250X IF THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Sounds like the needle valve and seat is bad allowing fuel to flow unmetered into the engine and air filter. It would be a good idea to check to the oil as well, as it's not uncommon for fuel to contaminate the oil when this occurs.

Fixing this properly would require a new needle and seat or a carb. kit. To get you by until you fix it, make sure the fuel is turned off each time the quad is shut off. Good Luck.
