So I was thinking about switching out domes on the head and putting in the high compression dome and running race gas and have a few Q's:
1. Is it worth the extra pain in the arse of trying to get race gas? The nearest place is 30 minute drive. I guess what I'm asking is do you get a good amount of power gain?
2. Leaded or unleaded, does it matter?
3. How long is the gas good for, I hear it goes bad after a week or two?

Thanks....

i dont think its worth it..... to others it is. it costs more.. like 3-5 bucks a gallon. Im just thinking every 2 rides would cost me 25-30 bucks :ermm:

Thing is technically I should probably be using 98 octane race gas anyways. ESR recommended 98 for their pump gas version dome which I have in there right now and 103 for their race gas dome. I've only been using 93 because that is the highest you can get at the pump. I haven't noticed any knocking or pinging at all so far. It's not the extra $ per gallon but the 30 minute drive each way that makes me not want to bother...

just run 50/50 if you wporried about driving up there 2 often...thats what im going to start doing rpoetty soon...its the best of both worlds

I easily noticed a good amount of extra low end when I went to high compression (11:1) and a 440cc piston. Now though, I want a 465cc piston (or 460cc...whatever it is) and 13:1 compression. I thought that it was well worth it, but then again.... I can get race fuel in many places within 5 miles.

Do you have a NAPA that is near you? The NAPA store in my town sells race gas for $4, which is cheaper than anywhere else I have found it. Have you thought about going with 10.3:1 or whatever it is, you might be able to run pump gas with that. But I don't know, I'm just throwing out ideas. Well, best of luck in your descision.

By the way... I run 50/50. (1/2 Race Fuel & 1/2 Super Unleaded) No Pinging here, but it does ping if I run straight Super Unleaded.

How about running Sunoco 94 and some VP boost to get you to 101? Curious about how that mix would compare in performance to 101 reached by means of race gas (and-or) mix.

any input

I found a place with Turbo Blue leaded 110 for $2.99 a gallon! Does it matter if I run leaded gasoline versus unleaded?

If you run high compression...run the race fuel!! I learned the hard way. Pre-detonation will cuase engine damage just as quick as any other problem. Is it worth the headache of buying race fuel? That depends on you, For me it most definitely is. This is what I do. I run around 103-104 octane range. So I'll buy the 114 or 118 fuel at about 10 gallons a time and then I just mix it with 93 when i fill up my tank. So in theory I just made twenty gallons of race fuel. that's my backwoods thinking anyway. Race fuel will last for about a month or more if proporly stored.

Remember 110 gas will keep your motor running cooler than 98, which is always a good thing with an ar cooled bike...

it probably wouldn't matter if you run leaded or not, but leaded is more enviormentaly dangous

lead was just used in older cars for there valve seats, they were made out of a different type of metal and they would wear and not seal good from the valve to the head, so the lead was basically like an oil for the valve seats. But now cars don't need that because they changed the metal of the valve seats. So if there is a choice between leaded and unleaded i would choose unleaded
