just wondering if anyone knew if you could take a power steering pump off a gm 5.7 L engine and put it on a 4.3 L v^ engine and for that matter any engine of car. I need one for my chevy c-10 a bearing went in it and was wonding if there were the same pumps on different motors

Are you sure it is the pump, and not the steering gear box? You can get a new power steering pump and auto zone or oreilly's for dirt cheap. It will probably be made by little chinamen though.:D

Pumps are pumps, those hydraulic pumps put out tremendous pressue, it shoud work.

yea its the pump because when i take all the belts off it dont squeel then when i put it on it squeels but then i was told to files down the sides and put a wider belt on it so i did that and it still squeels so i had my dad watch it and he said its not slipping but the thing is is that it only does it on warm up and on high rpm nothing to do with wheele turning so the guy at napa thinks it is the power steering bearing.

I am pretty sure it will fit.The 4.3l is the same as the v8's except 2 cylinder's cut off.All the mount points on the front of the motor are the same.

So yeah it should work.

I agree....the mounts "should" be the same. What year is the motor?

I had a 4.3 in my 1991 gmc sonoma.Great little motor.Over 200,000 and still ran stronger enough to smoke the tires.I put that motor through alot.I ran it harder than the 355 in my truck. And it was built to be ran hard.

Great little motors.

He said a c-10 so I am assuming the motor was an 87 or ealier. They didn't call them c-10's after 87.Also 87 was the first year for the serpentine belt setup.(it might be 88.I am pretty sure 87 though)

ahhhh, I missed that small fact "C-10"... answers my question. I was wondering what era the 350 was from...

I have a 99 GMC Safari w/ 4.3 (work van) with 145,000 miles on it....still runs great. Doesnt burn one drop of oil and still has a good amount of power considering how much and how hard I drive it.... LOL. The only problem I've had with it is the ignition coil going out of it @ 90,000.

yes it is an 87 c-10 but if we really want to get technical its an r-10 which is just the late 87 modle talk about a pain in the ***** to find that out alot of body parts are different all the shocks are completly different it took about 10 trips to the napa store to figure it out but i will never again own a 4.3 i dont like it its only got 60,000 miles on it and it wont spin the tires granted it is a litttle more truck to push around then a little sanoma or s-10 but i wish i had waited longer and bought one with a v-8. BUt for 1300 bucks and in decent shape i figured what the heck. its worth alot more now that iv put new paint body work shocks brakes on it. Not a bad truck if you dont need a whole lot of power for towing

Big difference between the old 4.3 that you are using vs the new Vortex 4.3. Dont rule the engine out completely... :D I agree though, if you have a fullsize pickup, the V8 is a better choice..

I would agree with that unless you get a year that had the 305. Can you say woof woof? :p

Just thought I'd let you know the pump may not be your problem. I have a 94 Blazer with the 4.3 Vortec and I have put belt after belt on this thing. Every time I put a new belt on it works great for a month or 2. I talked to a friend of mine and he siad it's just the way they are. There's too much surface area touching the belts on these things and they heat up and kind of glaze over. I found that a dab of petroleom jelly on each side of the belt works for a while. Good luck with this one. I haven't had any. I just turn up the tunes so I can't hear the squeak anymore.

Also have you checked the belt tensioner(sp)? They tend to wear out after 75k or so.

I'm with you!I have a 69 chevy c-10 that has no power steering, manual drum brakes,Manual trans, manual clutch.(spring loaded kind)When I first got it she was a pita. Now it feels like every other car.Except it's a little faster than most of them.
