Just wondering - my swingarm pivot bolt broke in the middle - I noticed it yesterday as I was drag racing my boyfriend on his Rappy (both sides were sticking out about 4 inches)........glad I noticed it before we raced again! I was at the track the night before, so I figure that is where I broke it - but what would cause that? Just old? Too tight? Bottoming out? Just wondering if it's preventable or just one of those things.......:)

the only way i can think of preventing it is to get an aftermarket pivot bolt made of a stronger metal im pretty sure that baldwin and most other major places carry them, your better off that it broke rather then it getting seized up and having to cut it out..good luck

That seems odd since I keep hearing and seeing how well they seize up in there and wont come out.

Good thing you saw it before you lost your rear :)

LOL! Yeah - that would have been embarassing! ;) Losing my rear and all......:D

I'll check out the aftermarket ones.....don't want that happening in a race!

Bring it to your local hardware store first. You should be able to find a solid steel bolt, but in a standard thread size, for around $8. I think 9/16" will fit perfect.

I bet this is why it broke

IT was all bound up and the friction caused it to head up and snap

Keep it lubed :p

LOL Paul! Did that happen to you again? Nope - I've never had a linkage problem (knock on wood!)

RIJon - really? I don't keep it lubed, really. And I have a +1 swingarm on it - do you think that had something to do with it?

Order one from the quadshop that Jeff fixes up witha zerk and what not so it can always be lubed and you won't have to worry about it snapping again from being seized up solid..

Rico - I'll check it out - thanks! That's probably what it was - I don't lube it at all......I'm a bad quad owner.

Yah you really need to keep it freed up

Same goes with the rear brake lever where it pivots in the frame

;)

thats a good idea, but wont steel rust?

06-16-2003, 04:02 PM
The zerk is a good idea but I see a lot of the zerks get broken off so get a few extra zerks and there cheap so shouldnt be any problem.

And Rico put the lotion away and go to bed :D

Your lucky! That Raptor in Dirt Wheels had that happen and it tore up the back of the cases resulting in oil loss and a destroyed motor! But that was a Yamaha too! :D

Yeah - it all held together pretty good even after it broke - I kept hammering it back in on both sides until we got home......it got me home just fine (eyes tearing) I love my HONDA (sniff!)
