really, its sucked man,
u think i should replace with th e same spindles or should i upgrade to 400ex spindles and calipers?
any idea on the price to do that?

any info would be apprecieated(sp?)

NO....400ex spindles would be a down grade. They are cast alum and will break even worse!

not to mention the geometry difference on the location of the steering flags on the spindle, in relation to the flag on the stem. it can be done but u will notice a difference in handling. unless u change the stem then it will work a little better.

he!! what do i know??????????

i thought that was a very popular thing to do esspecially with mx, i thought that roll ran all the mx and xc bikes that way, not true????????
i know racer101 has 400ex spindles on both his arens xc 250r and his roll mx 250r, he says it works fine.....
anyone else ever hear of doing this?

I guess they run them in MX because they are lighter. I know I wouldn't touch them after seeing a bunch of broken ones. They are alot cheaper.

yea i think thats why they use for weight purposes, but thanks for the info jeff, ill stick with the stock r set up then.

u r correct they do us EX spindles on Roll's frt. end. BUTT!!!!!!!
they take that into consideration when they design the arms so that the caster is correct (correct in there opinion at least). The arm angle on the R and EX frames are different by a few degree's so it is impossible to retain the proper caster when swapping spindles unless u change the a-arms, like ROLL and Houser did.

Basically if u take a stk R and put EX spidles, brakes, and hubs on. Then measure the caster, the REAL caster, the right way!!!, it will be different now!!! the difference in degrees is small, i'll just say its in the single didit range. but it will change the way it steers, maybe not so noticable for mx but in the tight woods its a little different. check some pics out of the arms on Ballance or Smileys quads, they got it all figured out, a few degrees can make the difference between #1 and #2 where some people might not notice!!

Exactly, its like putting 400ex arms on a 300ex. It works but doesn't handle very well!
