Also how are the kits in www.lrdracing.com

is the stage 2 kit for the 400 it include a 425 bore piston pro x coated 11.1 compresion web cam and gasket kit, for 488 i dunno if that includes install or bore.

All your power at the bottom of the rev range, I'd go with a Stage 2. Big bores benefit the most from the Stage 2.

The have a seperate section for labor look under the "Services" link. $50.00 for a bore.

I would get a JE or Ross 10.8:1 piston kit $120, take it to the machine shop $46-$100 + depending on where you are at.. Hot cams stg 2 $126, gaskets $20-$40. You will have a 416 kit in the price range of $280-$330 depending on other little things like valve seals, exhaust gaskets and so forth.

hmm my i kniow agood machine shop but i would rather send it out to sparks someone i can trust and know that works on smaller motors. Je pisotn kit for 120 gaskets and bored buy sparks and lrd proting, still around 600 i want it done buy someone i can trust so its reliable and i want a small bore for xc racing.

Sounds like a killer combo there hoss!:D

Heres my 2cts though... .....

When getting the piston, go for a really high compression piston. 11.1 or higher. Unless of course race gas is no where to be found in your area.

Why send a motor to Sparks for just boring out the cylinder????? Do you realize how much that will cost?
Buy all the parts, tear it apart yourself, just send the head to someone(anyone will do a good job) with the new valve guides out of the COMPLETE gasket set(I highly recommend the complete kit for $53 by Athena), have someone bore the cylinder for you and gap the rings, and put it all together. Even with the port job, you'll be around $800 alltogether doing it yourself. Or, you'll be at around $1250 if you have someone else do it. I'd go with the Stage II Hotcam also. Do you have a aftermarket exhaust? IF you do not, then do not have the porting done. It won't do you a bit of good, get a pipe instead.

Go stage 2 no matter what, you will waste your money otherwise, stage 1 is weak. Also go 11:1 for sure, and as far as porting, I saw a 416 that was ported and had a huge cam, etc... He just used a dremel, gring down the welds in the headpipe, and gut your silencer, he even had the spark arrestor on it still, was whooping piped raptors bad.

$53 sounds cheap for gaskets. Is that a full set? Every time you do a rebuild, it's a good idea to change the valve seals. A complete gasket kit is the way to go. Then you'll have them all. Sooner or later your going to change the clutch and what have ya, so you'll already have the gasket. And the kit also includes new exhaust gaskets. I think it's just a good thing to have around.
