Stock Chain Length for a 400ex
If I change to a 14/39 Sprocket combo , will the stock length work?

I think that it is 96 links. Get 100 links just to be safe, then cut off the extra.

Stock is 15/38 right? I don't think you will have a problem with the stock-length chain and a 14/39
If you buy a new chain, many places don't carry the 96 link, they'll just sell you a 102 link (because it's the same price) and cut it to length.
I know this because I just bought a new chain...

Thanks for the Replies
Which is it 94 or 96?
I spose I will have to buy a chain tool eh?
Where do I get one and how much?

I would buy at least 100 links and not worry about if you are getting it long enough. If you have a grinder, you don't need a chain tool.
when i was looking at chains dennis kirk looked it up and said 100links is stock i believe. i seen it on sidewinders web site to i could be wrong but im sure it was 100 links

94 is stock length in spite of my local Honda dealers claims of 96--I tried the 96; it was wayyy long:p running a 94 will allow 14/38, 15/38, and 16/38 gearing with no problem. 14/39 should work ok but get the 100 link as GNCC said if the cost is the same and grind off the extra. (dont forget to pick up a masterlink)

14/39 is same number of teeth as stock 15/38... i just replaced my chain and put 14/39 on... 94 links fit perfect... didn't even have to adjust the tension, but did anyways even though I'll end up putting it back once the new chain stretches a little
