I've got a 2002 400, and the only mods I've got are a pipe and k&n. The question I have is a while back I got a pipe and jet from the guy that had a ad here from florida, anyway he told me all I needed was the jet that goes in the very bottom of the carb, I dont remeber the name of the jet or the size, but now my bike is very hard to start in any weather, and when I does start it pops and chokes out all thro the warmup. If anyone has any suggestions or tips I would greatly appriciate it :D

The jet in the very bottom of the carb is the Main jet- controlling the mixture from 3/4 to full throttle.

The starting issue sounds like the pilot jet. Try going one or two sizes larger.

Well I went to the tech page here and saw the choke removal part, do you think this would be my best bet? And to go to a 42 pilot, and should I leave my main alone, or go back to stock? Thk again.

Ok, is any jet kit better than another? I've seen Fmf, k and n, and dynojet.

I don't know much about the kits other than they are very expensive compared to buying individual jets and you get a different needle.
If you remove the choke a 42 or 45 pilot should be fine unless it's really cold.
What size main do you have now? What pipe? I'd say a 152 should be fine.

I dont remember what main I have right now, I have a yoshi pipe, with k&n with removed airbox lid. The coldest it gets where I ride is 32 F at most.

Also where do you guys set your needle position?
