Swapping 300EX handle bars

I want to get rid of the stock bars. on my 2002 300EX, but the ignition is in the plastic peice covering the handle bars. does any one kno a spot to put my ignition. I was thinking inside the light inbetween the reverse and nuetral lights. any ideas

I have a set of renthals and they are super strong. Highly recomended. As for relocating the ignition, i think i would put it on the side on the quad, on the front plastic above the fender.

buy the 87 250x ignition holder from honda dealer for around $14...looks factory...best picture i have of it.

I have the 87 250x ignition holder also and it looks factory because it is factory. It doesn't quite match my plastic though. Its a little darker red.

I made an aluminium plate and bolted it on the headlight mount under the headlight bracket. It just fits inbetween the headlight plastic and the bracket. I brushed it out and threw on a couple of layers of mother's aluminium polish. It looks really trick, kinda hardt to get to with big winter gloves on but it looks great.

Heres mine .. I took my little lights off the plastic for a little while because i have to take my machine apart soon to do some minor work.

My way is free. Get some electrical tape(free if you already have it :) ) and tape it to the bars!

ok i know this is a dumb question but where is the key at on the first one?? i really can't find it!!

Lil90 the key is one the part of the 250x holder that is facing the rider, above the gas tank, (i asume u are talkin about dirt-clogs ride)

i just drilled a hole in my plastic like that second pic ...

...here's a tip though man.....drill your hole on the front brake leaver side of the bike in the same spot as in the second pic...just on the other side...that way you can pull in your clutch and turn off the key without getting your arms al tangled up.....
i didn't do this and wish i would have.....too late now.....
though if you do it on that side you could pull in your clutch and hit the run/off switch....but i never think of doing that....i always hit the key.....it's on run right now.....

...how is your frame red??...did it come this way..you paint it.... or is that a 250x?....i'll put an idea in your head real quick....
take a razor blade or box cutter and cut the stock 300ex graphix sticker to where the (300) part will come off and leave on the (ex)part....if you do it right it'll look good and just have (EX) with the silver wings behind it.....i did mine on my 96 it had the silver (300) with yellow (EX) now it just has the yelow (EX) i think it looks good

It you get the 87 ignition holder the key will be in the same exact spot it is now. No holes to drill. Just slap it on and be done.

yea i went back to "Burt Ives" (dealer where i got mine) and we searhed the computer and no luck. we couldn't find the part???????????????????

It would be a 1987 250x ignition holder. I will try and see if I can find my invoice for the part #

oh yea i forgot to say that a couple weeks ago i got the peice. it is perfect, everyone thinks it is factory, it even snaps into the light and gives space for the wires inbetween. oh yea we couldn't find it on the computer cause we were lookin at a 1991, and thise 250x's have the same plastic as mine does, but it is under '87

i would put it right were that castrol sticker is on the first picture of the 300. but on the outher side cause it is easyer to reach with ur right hand

this view doesn't show the key either but it gives another view of the cover...(also get to show off my new front tires and wheels)

hard to believe same quad from that earlier picture in this thread.

I think this is a great setup for anyone going to aftermarket bars.

I got my new Renthals and the 250X ignition key holder today, i bolted everything on in 20min, the 250x part fit perfecly with no modification required, thanks for the all info guys, this set up is awesome!!:D
