i got a tiem of just over 20 minutes this weekend on a 4 mile strech of woods at finger lake, it includes 3 creek crosings, a bunch of rutted out sections, a ton of his and a few rock gardens. Basicaly all types of terrain.

I figures that i need to get this 4 miles time down in the low teens to really be ready for gncc racing, am i right?

the pros do laps in the 25 to 30 minute range...thats a 8 to 10 mile lap. using your time of 20 minutes on a 4 mile course ....yer lookin at around a high 40 to low 50 minute lap time on a gnnc lap

yeah i believe ya have to be 16...but that gives ya a year to build your endurance. alot of them guys are as fast at the end of a 2 hour race as they are at the start....thats what it takes to run up front...110% the whole time:p

Yeah i'm just about 18, and I never raced I thought I would be too slow until I got pissed off and said screw it. I found the best training is doing and experiencing the race and I realized no one really cares if your slow.

At finger Lakes, you need to run those 4 miles in about 8-10 minutes to be competitive in GNCC afternoon races. That place and St Joe St park are the two places in MO with terrain closest to GNCC races. We are having a race at St. Joe state park on June 29. Come race in 4 stroke C and see how you do. Dont forget to bring a parent or guardian to sign the release since you are a minor. goto www.racingquads.com for times and directions.

yeah i dunno if i can make it we had a trip planned to go to little sahara that weekend but i really want to go race the next one is in july maybe have to wait till then.

That gives me some time to get shcoks and some new rear tires.

should i run stock gearing?

Stock gearing is fine. 6 ply tires are advisable. Tons of rocks at Tebbetts, and a lot of water. Real fun track! It will be HOTTT, wear a camelback.

Run C. If those are Works Steelers w/cans and you plan on racing and want to be good at it, run your stock shocks until you can afford something other than Works steelers. They are just a small step above stock, or send them to Derisi as soon as you get them and have them redone. Good shocks are the most important thing you can have in XC (and steelers dont count).

alright i was thinkign about tht also i was thinking of getting some Axis fronts this summer i found no adjustable ones for 740 i dont think i need adjustable ones axis is a good company and i am confident they will set them up right.

make sure they ARE adjustable. The better you get the more you will want to tweak the suspension.

Buy a used set and have them rebuilt if money is a problem. Axis will rebuild their own shocks for $200 for all 3. Find a good used set for $700 or so. Also, if you are planning on buying LT A-arms, wait to buy your shocks until after you buy the arms, otherwise your shocks for stock arms wont work.

in a worcs series race, i did a 7 mile loop in about 16 minutes for 2 hours and on a xc course in a texas xc series, i constantly did 13 min laps for 5 miles for an hour and a half.
