You could save by doing it yourself!! Spend $40-$50 and get the service manual and your all set!!

ide rather have my local shop do it for me

the best way is too do it yourself...i was exactly like you at around christmas...ended up paying 300 dollars for my engine builder to rebuild my top end...and they ****ed up too and never put the c-clip in the piston to hold the wrist pin in.....so i decided to get a manual and do all of my work from here on out..havent had a problem yet

spend the 35 bucks on a clymer manual there god ;)

trust me 35 bucks 1 times is way better than 54 an hour every time u get something done

i paid right around 300 for piston, cam and gaskets and a friend of mine did everything for me for $150 100 less than my local shop was going to charge. oh and by the way wow. my bike screems now. especially in the low to mid. and the top isn't too shabby either.

Some people just like having shops do their work for them, it's his money. :)

Most shops will charge around $50/hour. It will help if you buy all the parts and have everything ready for them. Ask around your area and see if anybody knows a guy who does stuff on his own, might be able to save a couple hundred bucks going this route. You can get the same work quality out of a small shop for $200 that you can get from a dealer for $500. As long as they do good work, you can't go wrong.

for the average mechinically inclined person the tear down would prolly take 2-4hrs. other than that the shop does the boring, a day or two(my current position) and build up may take a bit longer, because of torquing, alligning stuff, and final checks. ive had mine aparta week and a couple days, due to my procrastinating to take the jug to the shop. i will pick it up today then wait for the head to get finished.

I agree buy a manual and learn to do the work yourself. The work is not that hard as long as you have a tool set(nothing special just common metric tools)if you don't have a tool set than I would definatly do the work myself take the money you would save and go to Sears and buy a 100 piece metric tool kit(Craftman)about $120.00 or so plus you can get them with a carrying case.Take your time and you will have no trouble. Now make that Quad bad ***** with all the extra $$ you will save.:D

The only thing I see wrong is that with the bigbore kit you need to put a stage 2 cam in the bike.. I would buy a clymer for $25 and maybe try to find a friend that might of done this before.. If you can't find one then post questions on here or give Colby a call he will answer your questions.. Colby and I just did this Sunday and it took about 25 minutes to get the cylinder off ready to take to the machine shop..

i'm getting ready to do a 416 myself. the local machine shop is only charging me $30 to do the boring of the cylinder. There is something very satisfying about doing all yourself. I only have one question, what cam do i buy? There are several on the market, has anyone used curtis sparks? Please help

I have used the same TC cam in my 416 for 1 1/2 years,it originally was in my other bike(426) until I sold it.It is a TC national cam XC drop in.I have ran this same cam going on 3 years now and it still feels great. It may have cost more than others but in my opinion it was worth it.I have nothing but respect for Curtis Sparks I'm sure their cam is a good choice as well,I love the x-4/x-6 pipe also a very good product.

depends what you are using it for. i have heard with the stage two you need to keep the rpms up. i use mine for everything so i still need to be able to just put around as well as go fast. the stage 1 is perfect for me.

Every thing you do to it is going to improve the performance. It will definatly feel like a different bike,I'm sure you will be happy.Remember to take your time and if you need help, just ask.Another helpfull tip for a first timer is to use a digital or Polaroid camera during the rebuild.Have fun and don't loose your patience you can do it!!It will help out ALOT to have a friend help to put the piston back in,and don't forget to take out the 4 bolts on the cylinder before you take it to get bored or they might try to stick you with some extra charge.

i have had the 416 all this season and part of last. i love it however i would go with a hotcam stage 2 and a port and polish to do it right. i had marcums motorsports in forida bore it for me and port it and i put it together myself and saved a ton of dough. if you got the manual its a cake walk, just make sure you check everything twice.
