Ok. in a 250ex dont u have to go through like the whole motor to get to the oil filter. if so, how hard is it to change. and how long should i wait to change it. because i dont see them selling oil filters for a 250ex. IM so confused

The 250ex is the same motor as the Recon. Those don't have oil filters. There is a screen inside the motor that is supposed to be serviced by honda. If you would read your owners manuel, you would have known that. Does that 250ex have a external oil tank? If it does, there is a screen at the bottom of that too. You should be able to clean that yourself.;)

I THINK that it is a pain in the arse to get to, but I don't know where it is.
I had a recon, but I never bought a service manuel for it, so I can't tell you for sure where it is.:(

It is the same motor and drive train, but the front brakes and a few other things are different. That would be up to you.:D

They updated the carbs the year after the 250ex came out. But it is the same type of carb, just bigger than the old Recons. Make sure to get a new manuel, and the carb will be the same.

There is no external oil tank. The internal filter is a centrifugal design they've used for years on smaller engines. The oil passes through an assembly that slings the oil through a rotating drum. The particals are collected inside the drum ring that must be disassembled to clean after pulling the case cover. It is not a fine mesh screen or canister filter.

The service manual interval between cleaning is 1200 mi. or 200 hrs. There is an internal strainer screen to inspect and clean as well. Seems like a crude design but they work fine.

Yes the wire mesh screen in on the inside of the motor. The Honda tech guy said that at long as you change your oil often that we shouldn't worry about it. :ermm:

You can buy a manuel for what you are going to have to pay to take it to the dealer. If you have any mechanical knowledge, get the manuel and do it yourself.;)

i cant find a manuel anywere. i dont think one exists. and no it wasnt bored to a 270. i just put that there since the powroll kit adds 20cc's and 250 + 20 = 270

If they can't order something as simple as a service manuel, I would go to a different dealer.

Somebody has to make one. I would bet you that the service guys have one. If they have ever worked on a 250ex, they had to get the torque specs from somewhere. I would ask another dealer, just call one. If honda doesn't make one, try to get a cylmers one.

The 250EX Honda Shop manual is available at any (reputable) dealer for $40.00. They have been in print since 2001.

The cheaper flavor is printed by Clymer for $30.00 but is for 1997-2002 Honda 250 Recon (similar engine specs and design).

Buy the "real" Honda manual, they are excellent. Order online if the local dealer is a flake.
