i hate those things..everyone who gets their frist quad buys one and either is turned off from riding cuz they see the 250 sucks, or wants to stick with it and needs a bigger quad after about 6hours riding time and they want a 400. and i cant belive the 300ex was the biggest quad honda had out(sport quad) for years.

i think by 250 you mean 229.... maybe you should get a 270 kit and get it all the way up to 249!!!!!:D lmfao:devil: and it STILL won't be a true 250:D

i ride a 250ex and i dont see anything wrong with it at all i can out jump every single one of my friends with 400ex, i just got to hit the jump faster than them, and if i were goin to up grade there is no way in he!! i would even look at a 400ex, i dont know if you've see any shootouts in magazines.... but your not ridin the best machine either buddy, i would look at a used raptor, or z400 or kfx400 just so i could have the liquid cooling

nothing wrong with a 250.. its all about having fun, and its the rider that counts anyways.! I can show for that seeing I won 1st place at Humbold Ia MX track in the ATV class.......... against every sport quad out there.. :scary:

I do think Dirt Wheels is a little biased though, especially towards Suzuki. They talked about how the auto-clutch holds the 250EX back a bit and how they would like a rear drum and the Z-250 came out with both of those features and they never said a thing!

They treat 400EX's like they are slow as dirt when indeed they are not. They are quite lively.

Then they no more than touched on the fact that, despite the color and nose-piece, that the Z-400 and KFX400 and the exact same thing. Is that not stupid that 2 companies have the EXACT same quad in different colors? Did they bother to mention that was a dumb idea? No but they sure did seem to notice the new Honda Rancher has drum brakes didn't they?

4-Wheel ATV Mag is the best magazine there is for true opinions. Dirt Wheels is just a bunch of *******s brown-nosing Suzuki.

Does anyone else notice this?

Well, I'll try not to toot my own horn here but I have impressed some fast 400 riders with my aggressive riding of my 250ex. I will be the first to admit that my ride is not a speed demon of any sort, but with the Works shocks I can carry more speed and do more of the jumps. Yeah, I would like a 400 one day, but I run the 250 for all its worth and I have a blast with it:bandit:

I agree they are biased toward suzuki. Every knew suzuki that has come out is winning their shootouts. And they were complaining about the drum brakes and auto clutch of the 250ex but now that the z-250 is out and basically stealing honda's whole concept it some how is better but it has drum brakes and an auto clutch too. Whats the deal with that. And they rag all over the 400ex but what quad started this whole new high performance revolution. HMMMM lets see could it have been the 400ex. And ive rode a Z400 and a 400ex and to me the ex had way more power and it felt faster the Z400 didnt feel any better than my friends 300ex and all it had was a pipe. Plus i dont see why ppl are raggin on the smaller quads its not the quad that makes you fast its how good you ride. I ride a pos recon but i bet i could run with 250 300 and 400ex's just because i consider myself a good rider. Nobody im my riding group can touch me with the exception of the ppl with racing bikes but the only time they can get me is when we get in places that you can really top it out. SO its not your quads skills it your skills. It dont matter if you got the best quad in the world if you cant ride your not gonna hang. THere now that ive said my two cents on the subject im gonna go do something constructive.

a 400ex is considerably slower than a z400. i was drag racin a 400ex with an eseries on my kx100 and i beat him pretty good, but my friends kfx400 bone stock will walk about 3-4 bike lengths away from my bike

JKyle01
06-17-2003, 06:08 PM
Well the 400ex i rode had a smaller rear sprocket one tooth smaller than stock i think. My friend has it he said he beats raptors and z400s in drags. He has a e series and k and n filter on the 400ex too but it hasnt been rejetted so. But all in all the Z400 isnt that much better than the 400 but the z400 wins the shootouts and not the KFX400 when they are the same bike why dont the KFX win some???

oh yeah and my cousin has a kx100 and it wont beat a piped 300ex in a straight line so does your kx have anything done to it. We raced them up a hill and then down a hill. going up the hill his kx's front tire was about at the 300's footpegs and down the hill the 300 was completely in front. That was with me on the 300 when my cousin was on the 300 the KX won up and down. But Don the owner of the 300ex was on the KX during every drag cuz he was thinkin about buying it.

my kx only has a fmf powercore but it is an 02 model and is nearly brand new, but i swear to you i beat the 400 in a straight line drag with a light tree and crap. he got me off the start about a bike length but i caught him and passed him by about a bike length before the end of the strip. if that kx cant beat the 300 then there is a problem with either the driver or the machine:(

I like to think of my 250EX as a high performance trail machine. I have the same design as the Recon for good ground clearance but I also have more power so it is sorta the best of both world's. I can kick anybody I ride with's ***** when going through trails and stuff. I have gone through mudholes that are deep enough to sink my feet while I am on the quad and I wheelie out of them. The 250EX has great weight distrubution for wheelies and for getting out of mud. I can go through anything my dad and his 300 with Dirt Devils can and I have stock tires.

I can still beat a few people on drags, too. I have actually beat a 300EX in a drag race on grass before. I had my stock 250EX with the spark arrestor in the pipe removed and he did the same thing only he had a K&N filter. I did have my filter lid off but that is not a large advantage anyway. He probably had his off or had a hole in it. He probably hadn't had the 300EX very long because I noticed he stalled it once because he forgot you can't let the clutch out in gear without stalling.

I will say if I ever did get a bigger sport quad and had the money, I would get the KFX400 cause Suzuki blows! I will never buy a Suzuki product no matter what. If a pro runs a Z400 in pro production class, I will still root for them but most certainly not the Z. I will still laugh when his frame cracks though.

Its proven to be the truth though, my buddy has a z400 and it stomps the 400ex, plus it is liquid cooled and has reverse
