you can ceramic coat it if you want.
.best bet would be a complete system...go ahead and open it on up.

my d.g. head pipe does that too, i usually take mine off, sand all the rust off, and stick it back on there for a few month's.
..hopefully i'll be gettin' a DMC in the next few weeks.

Could I sand it down and then paint it with rust-proof paint?

I might have enough money next year for a new pipe. Will the aftermarket pipes rust too?

mine looks like that sometimes
I don't think that it is rust, it is baked on mud.

It just depends what brand of pipe you buy the cheapest may rust I heard things about fmf megamax pipes on a 250ex rust sometime when you don't take care of them.

I guess I'll take it off in the winter and wire brush it. If that doesn't work maybe I'll sand it down and then ceramic coat it.

I'm to lazy, I could leave the pipe on and do it,
or I could take the pipe off in the summer and do it all.

its just baked on mud. the factory system is stainless steel so it doesent rust. just wirebrush it or use some degreaser and stiff plastic brush it will look like new again. ;)
