My friend is looking at getting a new exhaust for his 400ex with a K&N air filter and stage 3 dyno jet kit. He has narrowed it down to a Pro Circuit T-4, White Brothers R4, FMF Titanium 4 or the Yoshimura Stainless Steel Comp Series. Is there much difference between the Yoshi comp Series and the TRS Titanium Pro series? Should he get a head pipe or just a slip-on? Which one would give him the best power and suond (not neccessary the loudest)?
Thanks

I would say to get the FMF Powercore IV with Powerbomb header... I got one and I'm pleased with the performance gain.

I heard the T4 and the R4 are pretty much te same.........But out of those, I would go with the Yoshi or the T-4

Stay away from the Yoshi. It is made good, but just doesn't have the power. On my 440 and 400 the pro circuit T-4 slip-on (welds ground out of the header) made more power than the Yoshi full system.

I agree. I have the T-4 and love it. I always get compiments on the sound and feel that the improvement is well worth the cost. I'm not saying it's the best, but I really like mine. I don't feel the header is necessary if you are only doing an air filter & jet kit. When your friend does motor work, then he might think about a header.

CT racing slip on won the DIRT Wheels shootout. See my thread this last week about the CT pipes? Many like the sound and hte power gains. Sold me- I bought one fer mine. I heard Sparks is an awesome pipe too. Engine builders seem to build the ones with the most gains, for the most part.:) JMO:rolleyes:

Thanks guys. I told my friend about the Sparks exhaust but it was a bit to pricy for him so he ordered the Pro Circuit T-4 slip-on.

For the last couple of years i had the White Brothers E series. This past winter I sent my motor to Trinity racing, that topped with the bigger carb from C&D, for the longest time i debated which pipe to go with. I eventually went with the Yoshimura comp series. Now since then, ive had the opportunity to race against alot of other 4 strokes all ranging from raptors, to DS, z400s and 400exs. Now im honestly not trying to start something here, but the truth to the matter is,,,,ive yet to be beat. Now keep in mind im racing primarily 300 ft sand drags, and i usually do get beat off the line, but catching and passing has yet to be a problem. My point is,,,all the 400exs ive raced all have had pipes ranging from LRD, sparks, hmf, FMF, and even ct. In my opinion a pipe alone wont make a difference if you dont have the rite engine work to compliment it. Heres an example, i raced a guy who had a 425 with the sparks exhaust, hot cam and thats it. Off the line we were close, however when i hit the bottom of the hill, i already had a 2 bike lead and was pulling away. No this wont happen everytime to every bike, and i feel im a decent rider when it comes to the sand. But all i can say is my yoshi pipe is really working out well for me. As far as the FMF.....well, heres a quick story,,,,the guy who went with me to the dunes had his all but 6 months, we were riding across the dunes at night, and halfway back to camp lost the pipe. It kinda crytalized itself and basically broke off rite down by the lower bracket. We looked couldnt find it so the next morning i went out to look for it, and seen another guy on a ex, and asked if he had seen one lying around. He also had the FMF pipe.
Later back at camp this same guy waved me down and then showed me that after i left him in the dunes,,his had broken off later that day rite at about the same place.
SOrry so long

LARS,
Between the 3, the yoshi will be the quietest. My old white brothers pipe was alot louder than my current pipe. Ive only hear the HMF on a warrior, but it does have a good deep sound. It is supposed to give pretty good results as far as torque goes.

HMF looks sweet too. Check out Pappy's quad in the "sickest GNCC QUADS" thread. He has a HMF full system. Looks GREAT!:)

Um, yall are all wrong. The White Brothers and the Curtis Sparks are the best. Curtis Sparks has the edge over White Brothers on HP. But, if you want lower maintanence and still get a big HP gain, get the Whie Brothers. :D

All of the pipes you mentioned are great pipes. My vote definitely goes for the Yoshimura, i have one in a UPS truck on its way to my house right now. The price is right, it gives you huge mid-range gains, and the sound isn't overly loud while giving you a deep throaty sound. To answer your other question, after extensive research on the Yoshimura pipes, I've found that the only difference between the Comp and the TRS is the weight difference and use of materials (stainless steel/aluminum vs titanium/titanium or carbon fiber). You just can't go wrong with the Yoshi!

I have had a white bros. slip on ,the fmf power bong system they are all s*@%. I now have the yosh comp system, the head pipe is much bigger than the power puke. made way more power than all of the others i have had. The quality of the yosh pipe is second to none. I have a lot of friends with 400s,raptors,and 450r,s 12 out of 14 have yosh exhaust on there machines. They fit better than the stock exhaust. I personaly would not get a different kind of exhaust for my machine. I know what works that is why I buy it.

I would have to say go for the Pro Circuit, I had one on my 400ex and it was great, I never had a problem with it and it wasn't all that loud so I didn't disturb alot of people, and it performed better than my friends power core 4, and e-series.

I did have an E2 white brothers and it broke off at the rear bracket (not the weld either). I bought the x-6 full system and OHHH BOY!! sounds better too. lots more power all across the board, mainly low end though. perfect for MX.
