ignition problem

I had a bad weekend. We had a jamboree in Genoa this last weekend. When I got there I started my quad and drove about 200 feet and it shutdown on me! My buddies and I spent 4 hours looking at everything that could be wrong. I put MSD igniton on it about 8 months about and checked out every connection seems like 10 times. We thought it might be the MSD so I converted it back to stock and tried it and it still doesnt work. I did talk to a shop while I was down there and told him what my problem was he said that he was 98% sure it was the stator. My question is is this common? Suggestions welcome
