does someone know what cam chain the engine builders use as the heavy duty cam chain for the 400ex?

i have asked a engine builder which one they used but all he would tell me that it was a oem chain from another motor.

Dirt, what size engine are you running? If you haven't modified yours than you shouldn't go through them too quick. Do you know how to check wether or not it's stretched? I have a 440 and have replaced my chain twice in three years. I just prefer to keep the stock one because I tear my engine down once a year for inspection anyways, so I'll usually change it then.

I thought that you traded a pack of smokes and 6'er of PBR for your cam chain!? :eek2:
I got mine from Hetrick. I paid $100 and it is beefer than the stock chain. When I compaired the two, I noticed that my stock chain was streached a little bit. I suppose that 3 years of riding will do that.

not to make anyone mad but i do not think the "engine builders" have the heavy duty cam chain made for them by some company. i have done some searching and i think i am on to something here. the stock 400ex cam chain has 112 links and so does the cfr450 cam chain. the price of the crf cam chain is $25.68 from service honda just right for a price mark up. the crf chain has to be more "heavy duty" for the rpms and power the engine puts out.
